This was president's day, with
the- new president, Mrs. Henry
Schuyler, presiding. Mrs. Schuy-
ler gave the plans for the new
year, and outlined the projects
for the year which are as fol-
low. civic improvement; com-
pilation of individual scrapbooks;
Christmas lighting; parade of
home.- and spring flower show.
Mrs. W. T. Spratling of Smith-
ville, guest speaker, gave a short
talk on the art of flower ar-
rangement--. illustrating her talk
by making arrangements. Mrs.
Oren Eskew also made an ar-
rangement.
The club expressed their gra-
titude to .Mrs, S. D. Rorem,
chairman of the year book com-
mittee. and committee members,
Mrs. Fred Haynie and Mrs. Oren
Eskew, for the unusual and at-
tractive year books.
During the social hour the
hostesses invited guests and
members out on the lawn for
refreshments of punch and cake.
Mrs. Henry Schuylei presided at
the punch service, while Mrs.
Annie Lee Alexander served cake

Installation Of
New Officers
Mrs. Otto Wolf was installed
as the new president of the
American Legion Auxiliary of
the James 11. Perkins American
Legion Post 51);! at a meeting
held on September 8 at the
Legion Center.
Other officers installed were
Mis.- Fay Chalmers, first vice-
president; Mrs. Sam Higgins,
second vice-president; secretary,
Miss Stella Spooner; treasurer
Mrs. Effie Sharp; historian, Mrs.
Walter Gore; sergeant at arms,
Mis. Fred Haynie; chaplain,
Mrs. Velma Hartzell.
Mrs. Ira Frieda, outgoing pre-
sident, called the meeting to
order and installed the new of-
ficers. The Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag was given, followed
by the singing of the national
anthem, and prayer. The aux-
iliary preamble was repeated in
unison, and committer reports
were given and plans made for
the next year's work.
The district convention was
announced for September IS, to
be held in Smithville. Delegates
pla ining to attend are Mr.-. Ira
Frieda, Mrs. Otto Wolf, Mrs. S.
L. Brannon Jr., Mrs. H. L. Per-
; kins, Mr.-. Lincoln Farris, and
Mrs. Velma Hartzell. 0 t h e r
i members who desire to go are
j urged to attend the district busi-
, ness meeting, which will be held
| at 1:;H) p. m. Sunday. The Le-
i gion's national convention is sche-
! duled to be in session on October
j 1M3 in Miami, Florida. Texas
| alone, has almost 23,000 aux-
I iliary members and throughout
j the world there are nearly a
million wives, mothers and dau-
ghters of veterans enrolled as
helpers in the Legion's work.

secretary the past year, Mrs.

arranged at the altar and wed
ding music was provided by Miss
Lenora Loeve <>f Houston and
William Smith of Freeport, solo
ists, and Mr.-. Julia Krumm of
Houston, organist.
Mrs. Ferguson's w e d ding
gown, an original creation, fea-
tured a sculptured bodice of
Chantilly lace over satin fash-
ioned with a portrait neckline
and short lace-edged sleeves and
a full -kirt of handkerchief lace
over tulle. She also wore shir-
red gauntlets and a silk illusion
veil that depended from a Chan
tilly lace coiffure.
The bride complemented her
costume with several family
heirlooms, a ring belonging
her maternal grandmother, a
pair of earrings worn by her
mother for her marriage, and
she carried a handkerchief that
belonged to the bridegroom's
mother. Her bouquet was a cas-
cade arrangement of stephanotis
centered with a white orchid.

enlisted in the U. S. Navy and
were home on their first leave.
