An invitation is extended to
the citizens of Bastrop and sur-
rounding communities to an in-
spection tour of the facilities
of the Federal Civil Defense
Depot at Camp Swift on Fri-
day afternoon. May 24 at 4
o'clock. However, you are asked
not to bring your children due
to safety precautions. N. R.

In new of the many disasters
which have occured in the state
recently, it is felt that there
is a growing need for civil de-
fense preparation in this vi-
cinity. Civil defense is not only
necessarily a war measure, but
operates in case of a major
disaster in a community and in
this respect it is asked that
everyone interested to be pre-
sent.

ciety will hold their last meet-

Registration for Red Cross
swimming classes vvill be held
Monday morning, May 27 from
9 a. m. till 12 o'clock noon, ac-
cording to Mrs. J. R. Pfeiffer
Jr.. This will be the only day
for registration and those who
wish to register must do so
that day.
With the help of volunteer
workers, the Red Cross will
sponsor the summer swim pro-
gram at the Bastrop State Park
pool beginning June o through
June 14. Classes will be held
from Monday through Friday
of each week.
Children from six years of age
lip are eligible to register, how-
ever, if classes become too large
it may be necessary to limit
the age to eight year olds and
up. due to the shortage of in-
structors. If this should be the
case, a notice to that effect will
appear in the next issue of the
Advertiser. Registration will in-
clude classes for beginners, in-
termediates and livesaving.
Due to the cooperation of G.
M Marbury, manager of the
Bastrop State Park, and the help
of the volunteer instructors,
who give so generously of their
time, this service is offered
free of charge. According to Red
Cross records of drownings the
program has proven to be well
worth the time and energy
spent on it.
Water safety should be ever
present in everyones mind as
they engage in the pleasures of
swimming and other water sports.
