been out Im-^s fishing
-evecal times in the past couple
of weeks and overall I've had
very good luck. I have had the
opportunity to fish in some of
the many fine farm ponds found
here in Bastrop County and
have really enjoyed it.
I would like to report t< you
artificial Irait fisherman that
I have had my succe-^ with the
big lucky thirteen It's about
like throwing a stick of stove
wood out but as soon as it
hits the water, I let it lay there
for about fifteen seconds, then
jerk it hard and make it make
a whale of a noi-. ; then reel
it in rather slowly.
I've tried several types of
deep running baits but haven't
| had any success. The bait for
| this time of the year seems to
be strictly top water. One rea-
son the deep running baits
haven't been paying off in the
ponds is because of the growth
of mos that is in the bottom
of the in. I've ai.-o caught several
nict ba.-> on the oid bait called
the Xputterbug. It K"<~ through
the water sounding like a freight
train >o maybe the ilack- are
hitting the sound more than the
bait.
Next time you go out to a
pond take along -nine of the
baits that make some noise as
you jerk or retrieve them and
I believe you will have some
luck.
1 t; ked to some fellows the
other day that were catching
-omc black bass or. minnows.
I'hey were using n >nofiliment
line and placing a small cork
ai'Oiit three feet above the lead
which is a very small one. Take
a good live minnow and hook

him through th«- 'ail and cast
him out in the middle of the
pond. In this manner the min-
now can swim around and
chances are you will latch onto
a good one. Don't wait for the
cork to go under as you would
fishing for catfish, because
chances are the bass will take
the minnow and start running
across the water; so when you
see the cork starting running
let it go about five or six feet
and then set back and the battle
will be on.

JUSTICE
for the People of Texas
J. EDWIN
SMITH
for Supreme Court of Texas
(Paul Pol. Adv.)
Texans like a public official
who is independent in his think-
ing and doesn't have to account
for his actions to anyone except
the voters themselves.
William A. Blakley is such a
man. Of his race for U. S. Sen-
ate, the Port Arthur Neus says:
"He entered this race by his
own decision. He is beholden to
nobody. He doesn't have to pro-
mise special interest groups
anything and he wants to rep-
resent all of Texas, not any po-
litical splinter or fragment or
faction above the rest . . ."
A vote for Bill Blakley on
July 2fi is a vote for returning
to Washington a man who will
truly represent Texas.
