FARLEY
With dove season already on
in the north zone and our sea-
son approaching, I would like to
write a few lines about the need-
less slaughter that takes place
every hunting season of the
hawks and owls. These binds
are killed every year by the
thousands and in most cases the
hunter js in violation of the
law. Most all hawks and owls
are protected by law for the
good that they do.

That helped to brighten up the

To the doctors, nurses and all

A very special "Thanks to you".
To all my friends, both far and

For the cards with notes of

\ hospital birthday wasn't had—
In fact is just made me glad
That you cared enough to say,
"Hello, Ida B . and Happy Birth

And filled my room with warmth

To make me glad I'd made an-

Of course, I'm home and doing

So thought I'd drop this little

To ay a very special "Thank

For knowing folks as nice as

all of our lives, but through the
work of people in the field and
through the analysis of the sto-
mach of hawks und owls it has
I been found that a very small
I part of their diet consists of
poultry. It is true that they
will consume some poultry but
lets look at the other side of the
diet and I believe that we will
see that they do so much more
good than they do harm. It is
found that the main food of
most hawks is rats and mice.
A great portion of the diet con-
sists of snakes and grass hop
pers.
With this infestation of rats
that we now have, the hawks are
doing us a lot of good. It we
only had more of these birds
they could play a great role in
controlling these rodents.
So sportsmen, when you are
out in the field this year hunt-
ing, please don't shoot our
hawks and owls just to see them
fall, because they are doing lots
of good and in the case of most
of these birds, you could be vio-
lating the law.
In the county where I was
working before coming here the
main farm crops were rice and
corn. That country was overrun
with hawks. When I first got
into that territory, I commented
about all the hawks and was told
very quickly that the farmers
would get all over you for kill-
ing them as they have found
that they make them money
yearly by destroying the rodents
in the fields and thus saving the
grain where their livlihood came
from.
