the State Highway Department

ious phases and plans for the
project were discussed by the

MCDADE The ninth annual
Lone Star State Fox Hunters
Association's barbecue and bench
show was held Saturday night at
the Knobbs, seven mile- north-
east of here.
Due to threatening weather, the
crowd this yeat was cut short,
e-timated at 1,500.
The show was preceded by a
musical program, emceed by 0.
.! Moore, and a barbecue.
The officials were: Harry Hin-
ton of Oakville. bench show
judge; John Roan of Karnes
City, ringmaster; Welder Mar-
tin of Elgin, president; and
Tenor Harrison, of MeDade,
secretary.
Ribbons and trophies were
awarded in all classes.
Winners in the bench show

Elgin, at the intersection of
FM 1704 and FM 909, proceed-
ing southeast through Utley and
across the Colorado River for a
total of fi.l miles. The con-
struction will consist of grad-
ing. structures, base and sur-
facing at a cost of $208,200.
Included in the project is a
new bridge across the Colorado
River to replace the 4.'l-year old
"Humpback" bridge.
Traffic will be handled
through construction where the
existing county road and the
new construction coincide. Ap-
proximately one hulf of the pro-
ject will be in new location
where the traffic wi.i be de-
toured to thii existing county
road The entire length of the
project will be patroled to mi""
imize inconvenience of motorists.
The cooperation of th« public
is request**.} •« obeying all warn-
ing .-igns.
Considerable responsibility re-
mains with County Commission-
ers Wiley and Harrison to con-
tinue maintenance of the exist-
ing "Humpback" bridge until the
new bridge i.- ready for traffic.
Mr. Schulz. who presided at
the meeting, is in charge of su-
pervision of the construction of
this project.

Last Year
Seven persons died of bites
or stings of venomous insects
in Texa- during lDaX, according
to a recent report issued by the
Texas State Department of
Health.
Three fafialitie.- occurred from
wasp stings, two were caused
by bee stings, one by a spider
bite and one unspecified.
