State Health Department cita
tier, foi Knox Kimbrough of th«*
Ba.-trop municipal water and
sewer department.
The impressively designed
document, signed by the com
missioner of health and authori
ties of the Texas Water and
Sewage Works As.-ociat ion, is
sparingly awarder! only to those
who can demonstrate "skill and
knowledge of watei treatment
plant management and an under
standing of the public health
importance of the work."
I'nder the State Health De-
pa! tment's operator certification
program, operators arc carefully
examined on their technical abil
ity and on their knowledge of
their work's influence on com-
munity health. Each must pass
a -tiff written test to qualify
tor certification.
The Texas general sanitation
law requires that at least one
plant operatoi per shift he certi-
fied by the Ma;, health agency,
but other plant personnel and
p< i son- in related fields fro-
il u e n t I y seek certification on
their own time and at their own
expense to advance themselves
professionally and to increase
their efficiency.
"The recipients of these certi

Points toward certification are
earned through actual work ex

annual district and state short
schools sponsored and conducted
by the Texa> State Department
