Soil district
offers prizes
for best kill
The Bastrop County Soil Con-
servation District will sponsor a
contest for the best deer killed
in Bastrop County during the
1963 hunting season. First prize,
$15.00; second prize, $10 00; third
prize, 55.00. In addition, each
checking station will give a $5.00
prize for the best dressed deer
checked at their station.
The deer will bo scored on
three factors—the number of
points oti the antlers (not count-
ing any points below the brow
points or "dog catchers"), the
weight of the field dressed car-
cass, and the inches of spread
of the antlers. These three fac-
tors will be multiplied together
I to get the total score. For ex-
; ample, a 10-point buck with a
19-inch spread that field dressed
130 lbs. will score 24.700 points.
By using this scoreboard method,
a light buck with several points
can compete with the larger
buck with fewer points.
