CYO Meets Oct. 24
One hundred sixty five dele-
Kates and visitors from Catholic
youth organizations of nie parish-
es of the surrounding area gath-
ered at Rockne Sunday, (Jet. 24.
under the auspices of the Gran-
ger District CYO.
Activities got under wat at 2:.*«>
with a Iwisiness meeting called
j to orde by Robert Petter, Bas-
I trap, district president, during
which ai/iliated clubs leported on
activities they carried out through
their spiritual, cultural, social &
athletic committees.
Election of officers was held,
with Rudolph Petter reelected as
district president, Amos p. ters,
Taylor elected as vice president
to succeed Norman llajdik of
Smithville. Linda Matoeha of
Smithville reelected as treasurer
and Susan Stevens <' Blanco ele-
cted as secretary, replacing Rita
Pekar of Granger.
Rev. l uis Wozniak Bastrop,
moderator of the district, spoke
briefly on the forthcoming Nat-
ional Catholic Youth Week from
Oct 31 Nov. 7) with "Youth — An
instrument of Peace as its theme.
He urged all clubs to participate
in tin activities of the iYO fed-
eration.
Principal speaker for the meet-
ing was Rev. R. Luka, CMF,
Newman Club Chaplain at SWT
SC, San Marcos. Father Luka ur-
ged the young people to consciou-
sly reflect Christian ideals and
prinicples in every phase of daily
life.
Rosary and Benediction with
installation of the newly-elected
officers fallowed the meeting
Supper was served by the ladies
of Sacred Heart Parish after
which a dance was held vrith mu-
sic by The Velvets. Night pray-
ers at 9:30 p.m. closed the day's
program.
Pastors or priest moderators &
a i umber of adult sponsors from
Lampasas, Granger, Taylor, El-
gin, Smithville, Bastrop, Rockne,
String Prairie, Loekhart, San
Marcos and Blanco also attend-
ed. The next district meeting i>
scheduled for February in Lock-
hart.
