True, most communities now

d<K'tor is a qualified physician
meeting the lugh standard* of
tliose w1k> know him best — his
fellow practitioners.
If there is no medical society
office in your community, ask
your hospital or your local drug
gist for suggestions. With these
names you can investigate fur
ther, and make your own dtt-is-
ion. The American Medical Di-
rector, published by the American
Medical Association, is an excel-
lent source of background infor-
mation that is available in most
libraries.
In making your final selection,
it is lx*st to visit the doctor in his
office. Does he impress you fa-
vorably? No one personality type
can l>e recommended, of course,
but if you are "comfortable"
with him and sense a quality of
competence, he has already be-
gun to win the confidence neces-
sary for a good doctor - patient
i relationship.
Ask him about his fees. He will
! welcome such a discussion as a
basis for futuie understanding. If
you wish he can advise you about
| hospital
costs and other medical
expenses.
When you have selected your
family doctor, be completely
frank with him. The more your
doctor knows about his patients,
he better care he can provide.
Consider him your health advisor
Follow his instructions and —
when you need them — heed his
suggestions on selection of a spe-
cialist and a hospital.
For your own good — and the
health of your family — don't
wait until illness strikes to
a doctor. Select him now so km
can have advance knowledge of
your family's medical problems
and can help you to say wed, m
well as treat you when you bs-
como sick.
