The Board of Directors met on
Monday afternoon of last week to
make final plans for the Chamber
Banquet The date of April -1 has
been se and it will fx- held In
the dining hall at the Bastrop State
Park. A Social Hour will precede
the banquet. Tickets will po on
sale at $2 00 each and only 20(1
tickets will he sold. Be sure to
Ret yours early. All members of
the Hoard of. Directors will have
tickets available or contact the
Chamber office.
The speaker is well known In
Central Texas and an outstanding
after dinner speaker. II. C. Pitt-
man, Vice President of the Texas
Automobile Dealers Association,
will greet his friends from Cent nil
Texas ami honor Bastrop with an
excellent program. Don't miss this
outstanding affair.

opening of HemisFalr. Bastrop
State Park is receiving more and
more inquiries ami the Chamber
has recei'-ed requests for informa-
tion on Bastrop and the State Park.

receiving quite a lot of publicity
on Harliara Robinson's commen-
tary on KTBC. The fact that Bas
trop Is on the Independence Trail
was (wily a Ix-ginning for the Bas-
trop Historical Society. Through
the efforts of Mrs. Maynard and
Mrs Sharp the four-mile Memorial
Medallion Trail has l>een charted
which will he marked with arrows.
The Garden Club is trying to have
homeowners plant Zinnias along
the trill! for color which will en-
hance the beauty and interest ol
the trail.
A committee of Burnet ladies
were in the Ch mt>er office mak-
ing arrangements for a tour which
tin- Pen Chat Club will make on
April 10th. They selected Bastrop
for this tour due to the information
they received from their inquiry
A number of tmvns were contacted,
but we were selected. This makes
as very happy. The ladies on this
committee were: Mrs. Kiln New
man Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Mrs.
Rita Rucker and Mrs. Inez Wilson
There are 85 members in this
Federated Qui/ and each year they
make a tour to some point of in-
terest. We will lie looking forward
to greeting this fine club to
Bastrop.

Pickle said existing federal laws
protect the <mfetv of government
property from tpalicious mischief
and that this sltould also apply to
the physical safety of employees.
He noted that in most cases as-
saults against postal employees are
covered by state and lofjal statutes
with the one exception, and that is
when the mishap takes place on
federally-controlled property.
"Our postal employees have a
right to and desc.-ve this assurance
that any harrassment of them In
the performance of their official
duties will lie dealt with in a man-
ner fitting the seriousness of the
Incidence."

feel a little guilty about the rela-
tive safety of their places of work
if they knew that these public ser-
vants were not accorded this same
right," Pickle said
Pickle said he felt the legislation
was Justified iudging from the up-
swing in the number of assaults on j
postal workers.
Pickle pointed (Hit that by the
end of the first six months of the j
1967 fiscal year, the number of
assaults on postal employees ex-
ceeded the total number for all of
the 1900 fiscal year. He wild that
assaults totalled more than 72 in
six months.

Chamber office for the convenience

ly weapon, a fine up to $10,000 and

gree to $1,000 or three years for
involuntary manslaughter.
Pickle said he had introduced
the bill to give the "U. S. Attorney
the tools he needs to cope with
these problems."
