BASTROP f TEXAS) ADVERTISE*. OCTOBER 1, WO
Bastrop C of C News
BY MARGARET PFEIFFER
All clothing awl other items left
In the Chamber office have been
picked up by the Salvation Army.
Mr. Don P"iem, the Salvation
Arm> n-presentative, expressed
his appiii'ialion and thanks to
the people of Bastrop for their
generosity. He stated that
all would be used to a good cause
and distributed where it was
needed the most. The wonderful
w«rk of the Salvation Army is
known through out the world and
appreciated by all. They too, will
have a drive in the near future
to help in their .'real work and
at this time everyone may par-
ticipate.
Bastrop will travel to Gonzales
on October 3rd for the "Come
and Take It" Parade. The float
must be iii line and ready to roll
at 9:00 i. m. and will be judged
nl Ibis lime. Gonzales always lias
one of t!ie largest and most beau-
tiful parades in the area. There
are III entries listed lo dale with
Bastrop being number M. On
October III we travel to the Bart-
letl Parade ,'l'his will be our first
trip to Bartlett and will repay
their entering our Grand Parade
at Homecoming.
STB RET SI EVE -
The Kmporium is bringing many
visitors to Bastrop on Sunday for
looking and buying.
The Museum did one of the
largest volumes of business this
past year than ever before. Visi-
tors were registered from all
parts of the country.
Campers and fishermen to Lake
Bastrop are holding their own.
Cricket Smith and his co-workers
are really making Lako Hash op
a place to want to go. (Fish are
biting too).
Bastrop Stale Park is lush and
green after all the fine rains.
Traffic is heavy with campers.
Golf Course Club House is get-
ting a face-lifing If you havn't
been out lately you wcm't recog-
nize the old homestead. New
.rlass all around and complete
changes in the interior. Really
a beautiful place. The Club will
have a meeting Tuesday night of
this week lo elect new officers.
Bastrop is indeed fortunate to
have one of the most beautiful
golf ( wises in the state in their
own backyard.
Sorry to hear that Charlie R<s-
kew is back in the hospital. Char-
lie has been on the Main Street
Scene for so many years and has
done much to help Bastrop
come what It is today and
want him to know that he is
sorely missed. We hope that h>'
will soon be well and up and
about again.
Word is out that work will .itart
on a new Baptist Church in the
near future. When our Church.-
are growing, our community i .
growing and prospering. It seem
that only those workers in the
Church know the great need foi
expanding. Congratulations to this
fine group of people.
Don't believe that we have men-
tioned the fine clean-up n>b by
Phil Lester in removing the old
tin building which was an eye
sore for so many years behind
his store. The new tile building
now housing the barber shop and
liquor store are quite an asset
to the street scene. Rumor has
it that other property owners are
planning clean-up for their prem-
ises.
Congratulations lo the Bastrop
Advertiser in their progress with
time. They are going to off set
printing due lo labor shortage
and whatnot. We hope their un-
dertaking will tie a complete suc-
cess. With only one printer in
the establishment il puts quite a
strain on Kd who has !>een doing
a fine job for so many years lie
has really had to burn the mid-
night oil. in order for us to have
a paper to read and lo get out
the needed printing Maybe now
he will have a little time for
fun.
