golden anniversaries of National
4-11 Congress and the National

("lean Ponds Of
Unwanted Fish
Says Mi "lira
When the fish population in a
pond becomes unbalanced with
small stunted o:' rough, undesir-
able fish, it is best to remove
all fish and start over with
balanced stock, advises County
Agent Ed vard Migura.
If the pond contains adult fish,
pond owners should not stock the
pond with lingerlings obtained
from state or federal hatcheries.
Certain fish ar" cannibals as well
as predators, and a few adult
fish can eliminate every added
fingerling in short order.
The use of rotenone is recom-
mended as an easy and practical
way to remove most kinds of fish
from private (Kinds. However, it
seldom gives a 100 percent kill
of bullhead crtfish.
Fish killed by rotenone are
edible. The material is not a
poison in the true sense since it
kills by suffocation. People, live-
stock. pets, frogs and other ver-
tebrate animals are not affected
when they swim in or drink
water treated with rotenone.
The material is to be used only
in private bodies of water for
management purposes. Interested
persons are advised to check
with the county agent for more
detained information on controll-
ing undesirable fish
FARM LAND PRICE UP
A recent Agriculture Depart-
ment report showed that farm
land prices edged lip in as'erage
of 3 per cent in the 12 months
ending March 31 The yearly gain
was the smallest since 1961.
Strong land prices in the South-
east and along the Atlantic Sea-
Ixiard where urban growth was
the dominant factor.
