First Baptist
Church To
Ordain Two
A special service on Sunday
night, June 23. at 7:30. at the
First Baptist Church will mark
a time of historical significance
in the life of the church body as
well i.s spiritual dedication
when two of its own members,
David Miller and Jimmy Mon
cure, will be ordained to the
full time gospel ministry.
David Miller is entering his
third year of theological train
ing in Fort Worth, Texas, at the
Southwestern Baptist Theolog
icai Seminary. He has recently
been extended the call to pastor
the First Baptist Church of
Weimar, Texas, and after his
ordination on Sunday night,
will assume full responsibility
in this capacity Mr. Miller is
well known to the resident of
the Bastrop Watterson area,
having married Suzanne Wat
terson, daughter of Mr and
Mrs. Claude Watterson. and
having served as a salesman for
several years for Capitol Feed
Company. They have two sons,
Scott and Timothy.
Jimmy Moncure is a life long
resident of Bastrop. His par
ents are Mr and Mrs. Jack
Moncure of 411 Cedar He is
presently serving as pastor of
the First Baptist Church of
Tivoli where he has been
located for about six weeks. Mr
Moncure is married to the
former Sandi Graham and they
have two children. Vrae and
Graham.
The Sunday night dedication
of these two men will give them
the privilege and the responsi
bility of performing all the
duties and obligations of the
pastoral ministry It will be the
first time in the history of the
Bastrop church when two men
will have been ordained for the
ministry at the same time.
This brings to a total of three
the number of men who will
have been ordainfd by the First
Baptist Church of Bastrop
during the past year. Albert
Lock was ordained in March of
this year and is now pastoring
the First Baptist Church of
Renner. Texas.
Following the special ordain-
ing service, a reception will be
given in the Fellowship Hall in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. Miller
and Mr. and Mrs. Moncure. All
relatives and friends of both
families, as well as members
of the local church body and
residents of this area, are
extended a most cordial invita
tion to worship with the First
Baptist Church at this time and
witness this sacred event.

The Ladies Auxiliary of
L B.A Fire Department met at
the fire station the evening of
June 10th for the regular
monthly meeting Wilma Bur
nes and Mary Samson were
hostesses for this meeting, and
refreshments were served to 10
members
Wilma Burnes reported the
sale of $80.00 for the Personal
Guide books The ladies had
been working at the selling of
these books to make money to
be spent on the fire trucks.
Plans were made to have the
"Odds and Ends" sale to be held
at the firestation on July 15-6
of July. A bake sale and cold
drinks and coffee will be sold
during the sale on the 4th of
July.
Members voted to order
uniforms of yellow blouses and
blue slacks The L.B.A. Volun
teer Fire Department emblem
will be in the form of a patch on
the blouse
We are sorrv to report that
Jeannie Wilson suffered a fall
during the meeting, but is
d >ing fine at this time.
All of you ladies keep in mind
that we will need cakes, pies,
cookies or sweet rolls for the
bake sale Please get all of the
Odds and Ends that you will
donate to the cause, delivered
before the 4th of July.

Citizenship
Day June 13

One hundred and sixteen 4-H
members, adult leaders and
parents attended Bastrop
County 4-H Citizenship Day-
Thursday. June 13th.
Thev toured Bergstrom
AFB. " KTBC TV and KLBJ
Radio Studios, the Texas Mem
orial Museum and enjoyed a
picnic lunch at Zilker Park.
Bastrop County delegates to
District 10 Citizenship Day-
July 9th were elected: Marilyn

Markert and Garry Fredrick
son.

mother. Mrs Lola Ferris, all
from Houston. Fishing and
swimming was enjoyed by all.
Mrs Ferris has a lovely home
in L.B.A. on Hiway 95 that she
comes to when she can spare
the tune, but she is still
working at St. Luke's Hospital
in Houston. She plans to retire
some of these days.
Mr and Mrs. Jack Bussa
enjoyed a visit from her broth
er Curtis Hughes from Hous
ton. He spent the weekend with
them in L.B.A.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson
had as their guests on Saturday
June 8th. Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Wilkinson and their son. Bar
nes Mrs Wilkinson is God
mother to the Wilson's little
son. On Sunday the six of them
drove to Houston to see the
Astros and New York Mets
play base ball in the Astro
dome Barnes Wilkinson is on a
Little League Team in Austin,
which is the Wilkinsons' home.
They took a picnic lunch and ate
in one of the Parks in Houston
before going to the game. Mrs.
Wilson's parents, who live in
New Braunfels, had been to a
convention in Houston and on
their way home from there
drove by way of Bastrop and
visited a few hours with the
Wilsons on Saturday.
Bert Moore and his son.
George, spent the past week
end in L.B.A. relaxing from a
busy week in Houston ana
checking the garden that Bert
and Georgia have growing in
1..B.A
Mr Bopp is home from St
David's Hospital in Austin. He
is improving but is not able to
be out but very little. He
spends a little time outside of
the house. We feel sure that he
would enjoy getting cards and
letters from any who send them
to him.
Charles and Jeannie Wilson
had some of the new residents
to come to their house on last
Friday evening for barbecue
and a get aquainted get togeth
er Their guests were Jim and
Janice Taylor and their two
children. Ben and Karen. Tom
my and Cindy Hergotz; Dusty
and Gerri Mattson. two of
Jeannie's nieces, Lisa and
Stephanie Ward, and a friend.
Jusie Ramas. all of Austin, who
were spending the weekend
Good food and a fun evening
was had by all of the group
Jeannie wants to thank all
of the ladies who were at the
last meeting of the Auxiliary
who acted so quickly to relieve
her injury from the fall she had.
