will be discussing constitution and equipment. Come if interested.
DOONESBURY
by Wendy Nordstrom
Want to relieve some
pressure? At about 7500 feet it
is about 12 psi, lower than the
14.7 it is at ground level.
The Skydiving Club is here
to encourage (probably in a
very liberal sense of the word)
and enable people to
parachute. We own some main
and reserve parachutes,which
are for members to use in lieu
of rental equipment, and
thereby lessen the price of
jumping. We provide lessons
on campus at some of the
cheapest rates available, and
anyone can be phoned for a
ride to the drop zone.
The real attraction of
jumping is the freefall; falling
without constraints, or the
feeling of any gravity. The
canopy ride, looked upon by
patience, sir..

jumping out of airplanes?") as
the high point, is looked by
jumpers as only the end of
freefall. Another one is the
feeling of exhilaration that
comes from conquering what
is an instinctive fear in man:
that of falling. The knowledge
that your existence is in your
own hands, and only yours, is
a marvelous relief from school,
where it seems that others have
more effect on you than you
yourself. And finally it has the
advantage of not being nearly
as dangerous as it looks.
To find out about these and
other aspects of skydiving,
and the Rice Club, come to the
meeting we will have in Baker
Commons September 1 at
8:00pm.
Campus politics ...
(continued from page 1)
The Republican counterpart
to the RDC atrophied into
oblivion about a year or two
after the 1972 elections. From
time to time it is partially
resurrected by a few Repub-
lican zealots who organize
campaigns for individual
candidates. One such
organization is Students for
Steelman, whose co-chair-
persons are Cheri Meyer and
Jim Beall. At an organiza-
tional meeting last week plans
were drawn for door-to-door
canvassing of the campus,
registration of potential
Steelman voters, and'a visit to
the Rice campus by Alan
Steelman on September 15.
Currently there is no
organization on campus for
Gerald Ford, but anyone
interested in forming such an
organization can contact Jim
Beall, 114 Lovett.
Whether you're an aspiring
orthodontist hoping to further
your career by helping Jimmy
Carter become President or a
pre-med intending to special-
ize in head injuries hoping for
another four years of Jerry
Ford, you can probably find or
start an organization to help
elect the better politician, or
the lesser of two evils, if you're
a pessimist.
