WHAT IS GOD'S SALVATION?
In Christ, God has
provided for man a full
and complete salvation.
The Bible reveals that it is
God's desire to save man
from the consequences of
his fallen condition and to
restore man back to
God's original intention.
His salvation is extensive
and encompasses man's
whole person, living, and
destiny. This God-
rendered salvation solves
the problem of man's
past, present, and future.
Although in his past
every man has committed
many transgressions
against God, he can
receive God's full
salvation by receiving
Jesus Christ. God's
salvation also solves the
problem of man's present
by delivering him from the
evil tendencies of the age
in which he lives. When
one receives Jesus
Christ, one obtains a life
that is able to stand
against the course of this
world. Finally, when a
person accepts God's
provision for salvation, he
is forever justified in His
sight.
And there is more:
"much more, having been
reconciled, we shall be
saved in His life" (Romans
5:10). God's salvation
does not stop at resolving
the dilemma of man's
past, present, and future.
Man himself is a problem;
something is fundamen-
tally wrong With man's
nature. Therefore, God's
salvation goes on to save
man's entire being —
spirit, soul and body:
"And the very God of
peace sanctify you
wholly... and your whole
spirit and soul and body
be preserved..."(I Thess.
5:23).
Because of his sinful
condition, man's spirit
has been deadened. Yet
when a person opens and
turns his heart to the Lord
Jesus, his deadened spirit
is born again: "That which
is born of the Spirit is
SDirit" (John 3:6b). Thus
the innermost part of his
being is made alive with
the very life of God: "And
you hath He made alive,
who were dead in
trespasses and sins"
(Ephesians 2:1).
Man also has a soul.
This soul, however, has
been corrupted by his
sinful state. It is God's
desire that His life in
man's spirit would grow
and spread into man's
soul until it is fully in the
image of God: "For whom
He foreknew, He also
foreordained to be
conformed to the image
of His son, that He might
be the firstborn among
many brethren." (Rom
8:29).
Another result of man's
fallen condition is the
working of death in his
body. With every passing
day there is more aging,
and with more aging there
is more death, until
eventually man's body
dies. Vet God's salvation
includes man's body. At
the return of Christ, all
true believers will have
their bodies transfigured
and death, the final
enemy of God, will be
destroyed (I Corinthians
15:26). "And not only so,
but we ourselves also...
eagerly expecting son-
ship, the redemption of
our body" (Romans8:23).
To receive and enjoy
such a full salvation,
simply turn your heart to
the Lord in prayer and
receive the saving One
Himself — Jesus Christ.
He is God's salvation
