Women's athletics MVPs of 1981-82
Women's basketball—Although senior swing player Goya Quails was only third
in team scoring and rebounding, her leadership and team play were reflected in
her assist total, which easily topped the team, and in her willingness to play any
position. Her experience and court poise were also important to the team's success.

I The athletic department honored athletes in every sport at its annual
| banquet Monday night. The following players were presented awards:

Women's basketball: Pennie Goff

Gawain Guy of the men's track team has been a highly successful performer as a
freshman out of Pasadena Dobie. He has qualified for the NCAA nationals in the
1500 meters and is undefeated at that distance this season.
Women's tennis—Tracie Blumentritt overcame early-season serve problems to post a
28-12 match record this season. She earned the fourth seed in the TAIAW state
championships last weekend, and has beew the number one singles player for the Owls
the last two seasons.
Volleyball—Though not a highly-skilled player, sophomore Caryn Perkins
was the team's MVP in 1981 Her execution of volleyball fundamentals
provided leadership for the Owls; she seldom committed costly errors.
Women's swimming—Named AIAW
Division II All-American, Kay Snell was the
meet high-point winner at nationals, with a
top finish of second in the 100-yard IM.
Women's track—Laura E. Wright has been a vital cog
in the Owl track machine this year, having already
qualified for nationals in three different events.
