Theatre
The Rice Players. The fourth and final presentation of the
year for the Players will be William Mastrosimone's
Extremities. The play, which deals with the social problem
of rape, is directed by Neil Havens and stars Emily Poe,
Ralph Biancalana, Peggy McCue, and Lisa Mays. There
are performances tonight and tomorrow at 8:00 p.n-.. in the
Farnsworth Pavillion in the Ley Center. The play will also
run April 8-11. Tickets are $4.00 for students and
reservations are advised since seating is limited to 100. For

I Want to Sing. The touring production of the gospel
musical will be presented tonight and tomorrow at 8:00
p.m. in the Music Hall, with an additional show tomorrow
at 3:00 p.m. The story is about a young woman's desire to
switch from being a gospel singer to a pop music star,
despite objections from her family. For info, prices, and

Wiess Tabletop Theater. The production of Larry Shue's
comedy The Foreigner will be this week from Wednesday
through Saturday at 8:00 p.m., except for a 7:00 p.m.
showing on Friday. Directed by Rita Cortes, the play
follows the adventures of a British traveler named Charlie
(Tom Senning) who must pretend he cannot speak English
while he stays in a small Georgia town. The play will be in
the Wiess Commons. For reservations and info call : 527-

Art
The Museum of Fine Arts. Sir Lawrence Gowing will
speak on the topic of "Love in the Art of Lautrec" on
Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Brown Auditorium of the
museum. Admission is free. Also at the museum will be the
opening of an exhibit featuring the works of Joel Sternfeld.
Sternfeld will have 78 of his color photographs on display
beginning Sunday and lasting until April. At 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, Sternfeld will lecture on his American Prospects

Cinema
Rice Media Center. Friday there is a comedy double bill
featuring two British films. The first is Peter Sellers in A
Shot in the Dark at 7:30 p.m., which is the first sequel to
The Pink Panther. Next is Michael Caine in The Wrong
Box at 9:15. Saturday, there is another double feature with
Joseph Losey's The Go-Between at 7:30 p.m. and Max
Ophuls' Lola Monies at 9:30. Tickets are S3.00. For info

Soprano Elly Ameling will perform Sunday at Jones Hall
Music
Shepherd Symphony Orchestra. On Sunday, April 5, the
orchestra will present a gala concert in Jones Hall with
guest artist Elly Ameling, a renowned lieder and concert
singer. Uri Meyer conducts the program of works by
Mozart and Stravinsky. The performance is free; doors
will open at 7:00 p.m. for the 8:00 p.m. concert.

Houston Symphony Orchestra. Guest conductor John
Williams will lead the orchestra in three concerts at 8:00
p.m. Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and 8:00 p.m. Monday
in Jones Hall. Actor Burgess Meredith will also perform as
a guest conductor during the performances. Selections
include Essay for Strings, The Rivers, and Adventure on
Earth, the latter from E.T. the movie. For tickets and info

Concerts
U2. Just beginning their 1987 tour, the group will come
through Houston for two shows this Tuesday and
Wednesday at the Summit. Bono and The Edge always put
on a powerful show, so this one shouldn't be missed.

Stanley Jordan. One of the very best guitarists around,
Jordan will be in concert tomorrow evening along with jazz
vocalist Bobby McFerrin at the Tower Theater. There are
two shows at 7:30 and 11:00 p.m. Tickets and more info:

The Temptations and The O'Jays. The two Motown
supergroups will be appearing tonight for two shows at
7:30 and 11:00 p.m. in the Arena Stage. As a revival
concert, both groups should be performing their greatest

Dance
Feld Ballet. The group will appear in Jones Hall this
Wednesday and Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. in
performances sponsored by the SPA. There is a different
program each night. The 20-member company will include
works set to the music of Strauss, Wolf and Reich. For

Sallyport Award for
Service to the Rice
Community
The Sallyport Award will be presented to those
deserving students who have made significant
contributions to community life at Rice. One of the
goals of the Sallyport Award is to recognize
student service which may not have been
recognized in other ways. If you know someone
who has worked hard and given of his/her time
and talent to benefit the entire Rice community
please take the time to nominate that person so
that he or she may gain recognition for his/her
contributions.
Any member of the Rice Community may
nominate an individual for the Sallyport Award. In
order that the Awards Committee can effectively
evaluate each nomination, we ask that you
provide us with 1) a list of the student's activities
and contributions and 2) a brief paragraph or two
setting forth reasons why you believe your
nominee should receive the Sallyport Award. We
further ask that you provide us with the name of
another person whom we might contact to learn
further information about your nominee's
contributions to Rice.

finest.
