STUDENT DIRECTOR FOR ORIENTATION POSITION

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Student Director for Orientation serves as the primary organizer for O Week activities and events.
RESPONSIBILITIES „
* Chair the Orientation Coordinator meetings.
* Serve on Orientation Steering Committee.
Act as a liaison between Orientation Coordinators, Masters, College Coordinators, the Steering
• • Committee, and the Vice President for Student Affairs.
* Revise and publish the O Week Schedule and other publications under the direction of the
Steering Committee. . . - '
4 Coordinate Transfer Orientation.

Coordinate On-Campus Housing During O Week.
* Assist in the planning of University-wide O Week events.
* fteview and evaluate O Week for presentation to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
* Other duties as needed. „
UNIVERSITY EXPECTATIONS
* Recognize that orientation is first and foremost for the benefit of the new students.
* Represent Rice University in an appropriate manner to new students and families.
* Establish regular office hours.
* Exhibit, as agents of the University, an openness to the diversity of views and issues which
current and future members of Rice University Will represent. This includes a willingness to
respect individuals of different race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national or ethnic
origin, age, and disability or veteran status in accordance with Rice University's policies.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT
March 1,1997 - January 15,1998 (or until completion of O Week report).
COMPENSATION
$4000.00 Stipend.
APPLICATION PROCESS '
Applications will reviewed by the Steering Committee after the deadline. Candidates will then be
notified for ah interviews conducted by appointed members of the Steering committee. Final selection
will be made by February 18,1997.

Interested applicants should contact Steve Sutton, Chair, Orientation Week Steering Committee at
527-4096 or ssutton@rice.edu. Applications will be available Tuesday, January 21 at the Student Center
Information Center as well as the Vice President for Student Affairs Office in Lovett Hall, The
