and the band less than might be
expected. After all, they are still part
of the "Do It Yourself punk scene.
"We are probably, beside Fugazi
and Sunami, the only band that has
stayed (independent)'doing it the
way we initially {Wefej," Wuster said.
"It feels really good to still be doing
it (that way] and be able to make a
living off of it and still maintain our
self-respect."
Supcfchurtk has ho intention of
leaving the indie punk scene t hough.
They realize, as some bands don't,
that all good things come to an end.
At that time, singer/guitarist Mac
McCaughan, Bassist Laura
BaHance. guitaristjames Wilbur and
Wurster will go on to other project s.
However, Superchunk does not
see themselves quitting for a lack of
exposure. Their DIY attitude-in one
that they cherish.
"I am into the fact that we are the
underdogs in many ways," Wuster
said. "But, I don't know that we even
consider ourselves a punk band any-
more. I think we are probably punk
in our work ethic."
If not punk, then what does
Superchunk consider itself? At this
point, both Wurster and the media
are at a loss to describe them.
However you describe them, they
are still fun to watch and hear. Their
tour puts them at Fitzgerald's to-
night. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Hock a-Teens, Blueprint and Jessica
Six will open.
