BROWN, (rum ftw 1
Cabinet called an all-college
meeting Tuesday during which
"students worked together to-
ward a solution. Instead of look-
ing to the court and cabinet to be
the ones to enforce the policy,
now all the students at Brown
will take that responsibility," HA
Lisa Jones said.
The meeting also served as a
wake-up call for students about
their responsibility under the al-
cohol policy.
Duncan said that the C abinet
told college members to be on
the lookout and to encourage self-
policing.
"People hqw know that olie
more violation and it could be
over," he said.
Brown students feel that
Bass's memo singled them out
from among the eight colleges.
"From what I've heard, other col-
leges have been having similar
problems," Duran said.
"Dr. Bass may have taken this
opportunity to warn the univer-
sity that the administration is not
going to abide by blatant break
ingof the alcohol policy anymore.
Brown got stuck in this," she said.
Wiess College Chief Justice
and senior Chris Ruehl said that
every college is as guilty as Brown
of breaking the alcohol policy.
"I think Brown was a scape-
goat. They were the ones that
were caught," be said.
Wiess College junior Chuck
Wittetl said, "When you send the
same freshman to the hospital"
two times, you show a complete
breakdown of the advising sys-
tem and of the core structure of
the college. Therefore, some-
body needs to intervene."

making construction documents and
construction."
Samuels said construction of the
house is taking plat e in Ryoff Engi-
neering Laboratory, where the
"high-bay, out of the weather space"
makes it an ideal work site;
Students then move the pieces
on location to the 3rd Ward building
site. The class began working on-
site last Thursday and have thus far
laid down the floor.
"The house is being built as it is
being drawn, what we call fast-track-
ing, because design changes are
continually being made," third-year
graduate student Carlos Fighetti
said.
The hands-on experience the
class provides is new to most stu-
dents, since involvement through-
out the entirety of a project is an
unconventional concept.
"Almost none of the people in
here have ever taken a project all the
way through. In an office, this Would
never happen. In an office, things
happen sequentially — I would only
be able to participate in one part of a
large process. Here, I can work on
the entire project from beginning to
end," Gordon said.
Lovett College fifth year Juliette
Wheian said, "The focusofthiselass
is to build, to create a house, not just
draw one on paper. Learning to build
— that's what I'm interested in."
Funding, for the project comes
from in-kind contributions such as
windows, plumbing, electrical and
heating and air-conditioning sys-
tems, in addition to financial sup-
port from various donors.
The Rice Building Workshop has
obtained five lots from Project Row
Houses and anticipates building four
more houses in subsequent years.

several weeks ago, which defter
finds encouraging.
"Other universities that I talked
to warned me 'you are not going to
get any phone calls —- it took us
several months, if not the whole
year to gef any calls,"" Getter said,
"The first day,Oct. 27, we opened
at noon. At about 12:15 we got our
first call, which was amazing."
Lovett College senior Mikal
Cline said the hotline is an "impor-
tant intermediate step between
talking to your friends and going
to a counselor if you have a prob-
lem."
Although PHIS is only in its
infancy, defter hopes that some-
day the Women's Resource Center
will operate a 24-hour hotline
"The way we started, we said,
'UTsjust do it, let's get it rolling/"
defter said. "In the process, I have
created many more dreams forihc
future, and one of them is to he
come a 24-hour hotline "
