OBITUARY
Alta Malvenia (Swaizey) Pradia was the second child of Earl
Nugent Swaizey and Alta Ruth (Todd) Swaizey born in San Antonio,
Texas on July 2, 1935. As a child, she attended Holy Redeemer
Catholic School, and later graduated from Wheatley High School.
Alta accepted Christ into her heart at the age of 11, and became
a member of Mount Zion First Baptist Church. Alta was a faithful
Christian and served in the choir ministry. She was talented at
singing and playing the piano. She was a gifted first soprano, and
was frequently asked to sing as a guest soloist at other churches.
Alta met her husband, Gilbert Elor Pradia, Sr., on Valentine's
Day 50 years ago, and he became her long'time husband of 47
years. After marriage, Alta traveled with her husband, who was
enlisted in the military, throughout much of the United States, as
well as abroad. Alta was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed taking
care of her husband, raising her three children, and was active in
the church. As the children got older, she later ventured out into
the health profession as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Alta's
favorite hobbies were shopping, reading books, cooking new recipes,
sewing, and service ministries. She had a strong interest in runway
fashion, interior decorating, and in reading her Bible.
When the family finally transferred back to Texas, after living in
many different states, they initially returned to live in the northeast
of San Antonio, where she became a member of Mac Arthur Park
Church of Christ for many years. Later, the family transferred to
the Hiram Clarke region of Houston, Texas.
Eventually, after her husband's retirement from the Army, they
returned to settle in San Antonio, Texas. It was at that time that
Alta rededicated her life to Christ, and became a member of
Cornerstone Church under the direction of Pastor John Hagee,
and attended church services every Sunday. Although her health
eventually prevented her from being an active member, she
continued to watch Pastor Hagee on television, study the word of
God, and was faithful to her religion.
Alta went to her eternal resting place in heaven on March 2,
2007 at 8:10 PM. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
great grandmother, and sister whom we all loved dearly. To cherish
her memory, she leaves a surviving husband of 47 years, Gilbert
Elor Pradia, Sr.; children Christal Pradia Harris, Angela Pradia
Jones, Gilbert Elor Pradia, Jr.; grandchildren Demetria Jones,
William Jones, Jr., Brittany Pradia, Andre' Harris, Gabriela Harris,
great granddaughter Trinity Jones, and sister Peggy R. Swaizey;
and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
