SOMETHING ABOUT MAMA
SERVICE
Elizabeth Williams, Sis'ta, Liz, Miss Sassy,
Lizzy, Granny or just plain Mama were just some
of the names she went by. Loving, nurturing, car-
ing, helping, organizing, or just listening were just
some of the qualities she had. Partying, shop-
ping, movie going, traveling, sneaking up on
folks, or just trying to surprise you were things
she was known for. She was stylish, sassy, intel-
ligent, smart, funny, and just plain good people to
be around. Raising eleven children she still found
time and energy to participate in the helping of
others. Mrs. Williams was on the board of Direc-
tors for Community Action Programs such as
Lake County Economic Opportunity Counsel
(LCEOC), Project Justice and Equality (PJE),
and Legal Services for Northwest Indiana, Metro
Corp. of Gary Indiana, Client Council and was
also affiliated with United Way, Welfare Advo-
cacy and the Rainbow Coalition. Being an East-
ern Star, she rose to the positions of Supreme
Flag Bearer OES at the national level and Pass
Grand Matron OES for the state of Indiana in a
35 year plus journey. Out of all the things and
involvements she's ever been in, this was her
very favorite of all. She's traveled by bus, train,
car, and airplane throughout the U.S., Hawaii and
Canada. Mrs. Williams has met many well known
people: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Bishop TuTu,
the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Bill Cosby, Marvin
Gaye, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jordan,
Meschae Taylor of Designing Women, Bianca
Ferguson and Richard Hatcher just to mention a
few. Her hobbies were reading, sewing, ceram-
ics, and going to the movies. Always comforting
and being a peacemaker for her family and
friends showed the love and strength of this
woman. She would say don't cry for me, but re-
member our good times. I know you are in a bet-
ter place Mama. We had a long run, we had a
good run. I will love you forever. Thank you. You
did good Mama.
