Dear Ms
Received your letter of June 10th and was very glad to hear
the good news. However, we still have a big fight because I don't
know how West Texas will go# Geo, Garza has been working in West
Texas and in New Mexico where we will have two new councils this
year. Deming and Carlsbad, New Mexico# I am pretty sure that |hese
two councils will go against me and the thing to do is to find
out how they are going because according to our Constitution, as
they were Installed on the May 25th, which is less then thirty days
before the National Convention the only way that we can vote is
with the express vote of the National assembly# In that way if we
know that they are going to go against us we may as well cut their
water off before they can do mudiharm#
The Laredo bunch of course is working frantically# They
have promised the Laredo support to Alberto Armendariz, First
National Vice President of El Paso, G# C# Martinez, Texas Regional
Governor of Galveston and to Joe Garza of Corpus Christi# They
have all been promised the Laredo votes if they will buck me# We
will have to be prepared to expect all kinds of rumors and offers
of support from them# We will have to be prepared# Aboit Gus Garcia,
I have been with him working on cases several times in the past
month and he was never serious about running. As a matter of fact,
he may not even go to the Convention# Raul Cortez has said he will
not go if Gus doesn't go, so that means that we will have to be care-
ful as George Garza will be presiding and we will have to have an
©lection committee to lay down the law# I should like to see you go
so that you can give me some suggestions in this regard# Please
talk to Dr. Sanchez and have him go at all costs to the Convention#
With him and Hector there, I am sure I can swing enough votes to win#
Please work on the Austin Ladies as much as you can, as this will help
greatly# Hoping to see you at Corpus, 1 am
Fraternally yours,
John J. Herrera
