MEMORANDUM
TO: ALL LULAC COUNCILS

LULAC NATIONAL PRESIDENT
DATE: JUNE 21, 1979
First of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank
each and every one that endorsed and supported my candidacy tor
LULAC National President on June 17, 1979 in Houston, Texas at the
50th Annual LULAC Convention. To those persons who did not
support me, I now would like to encourage and urge you to join
us in building a stronger and more unified LULAC.
Since my election as LULAC National President on June
17, 1979 I have taken the following measures in trying to improve
and strengthen ties for the Hispanic community:
1. Contact with Congressman Mickey Leland's office--estab fishing
coalition agenda-contact on June 18, 1979.
2. Contact made for appearance on NBC's Today Show and ABC's
Good Morning, America (June 18 and June 19, 1979).
3. Interview with Nuestro Magazine (June 18, 1979).
4. Economic development in West Texas--contact with Tony Abarca
of BID on June 18 and June 19, 19 79.
5. Contact with Congressman Joe Wyatt.
6. Meeting with Jose Longoria, LNESC Executive Director, regarding
operation of LNESC and National LULAC Office.
7. Conversation with Bob Montalvo, National Vice-President lor ^outh,
regarding youth programs, grant applications, contacts with
David Salinas and trip to Brownsville on Governor's Conference.
8. First contact with Willie Velasquez with Southwest Voter Registration,
Voter Education Project, San Antonio, regarding coalition effort
with National LULAC and briefing. Meeting set for Saturday, July
7, 1979 in San Antonio, Texas 11:00 a.m.
9. Interview with Kathyrn Livingston, Senior Editor with Town §
Country Magazine, New York, New York on Wednesday, June 20, 19/9.
10. Private luncheon with Governor Bruce Babbitt, Governor of Arizona
and Chairman of the Southwest Regional Border Commission on
Thursday, Jime 21, 1979.
11. Participant at Governor's Conference between Governors of the
Southwestern United States and Governors of Northern Mexico on
Friday, June 22, 1979.
12. Workshop participant at CURE(Citizens United for Rehabilitation
of Errants) , a prison reform group, Corpus Christi, le.xas on
Saturday, June 23, 1979.
13. Keynote address, Asherton, Texas, one year celebration for a
community celebration project on Sunday, June 24, 19/9.
