Bastrop Christian Church welcomes Pastor Bartlett

Bastrop Christian Church welcomes Rick J.
Bartlett as the new senior pastor. Previous to
coining to Bastrop, Pastor Bartlett 51. served
16 years as senior pastor of New Braunfels
Christian Church. He has been in the ministry
for over 30 years. He is joined by his wife Tina
and son T.J., who will be a junior at Bastrop
High School. (T.J. will be involved in the band
and with the cheer association.)
Rick and Tina also have five adult children
— Chris, Erin. Alison, Jerome and Garrett.
Tina has experience in marketing and advertis-
ing, and now has a home-based sewing and
embroidery business.
The title of Pastor Bartlett's first mes-
sage at the church this Sunday will be —
''What a Journey!" Pastor Bartlett graduated
from Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma
City, OK. He received a bachelor's degree
in Ministries in May 1979, and an additional
bachelor's degree in Christian
Education in May 1980.
Former Pastor Dr. Tim
Crowe came to BCC in 1993
and left in August 2007. He
moved to Hattiesburg, MS., to
accept a ministry opportunity.
Bastrop Christian Church
is in downtown Bastrop at
1104 Church St — next to the
Bastrop Public Library.
Worship services begin at
10:30 a.hi., with Sunday School for children
and adults at 9:30 a.m. Come join the con-
gregation this Sunday in welcoming the new
pastor to Bastrop.
Area Deaths
Lois Blackwell —
Lois May Bullard Blackwell died July 26,
2008 after battling cancer for more than 35 years.
She was born October 20, 1921.
She was one of eight children bom to Myrtle
Maud Sweeten Bullard and Elmer Eddy Bullard.
She married Melvin Thomas Blackwell on
October 18, 1941 in Thrall, Texas.
Her son Jimmy Edward Blackwell, six broth-
ers and one sister, preceded Lois in death.
Survivors are her daughter Carol Sue
Blackwell Farris and husband Robert Price Farris
of Bastrop; grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and
her nephews.
Lois and her family moved to Dallas in 1952
and in 1953, she began a 28-year career with
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a long
distance operator. She then retired.
Lois had a green thumb and
spent hours gardening, taking
fresh produce to work where her
co-workers would purchase the
vegetables. She also grew flow-
ers-the brighter the better.
Lois enjoyed cooking, leav-
ing behind recipes for her fam-
ily. She also took up quilting
after retirement to make extra
money and sold hundreds of
them, shipping them all over the
U.S. She dabbled in oil painting
and enjoyed telling stories from
her childhood.
Viewing and visitation was
held yesterday from 6-7:30 p.m.
at Condra Funeral
