TAKS' tests begin March 3
Bastrop ISD school
officials want to remind
parents that students will
take the Texas Assessment
of Knowledge and Skills
(TAKS) tests March 3 -
6. More testing will take
place in April and early
May.
The tests are important
because students in some
grades must pass specific
tests to be promoted or to
graduate and because the
Texas Education Agency
will rate schools based on
test results.
TAKS promotion
requ remerits are:
■ Fifth and eighth
graders must pass Reading
and Math to be promoted
to the next grade.
■ Third graders must
pass Reading to be pro-
moted to fourth grade.
■ Students in eleventh
grade must pass all por-
tions - English-Language
Arts, Math, Science, and
Social Studies to graduate.

Gracey recognized
In BISD's schools the
technology keeps getting
bigger and better every
year, in large part due to
the direction from Lori
Gracey, executive director
of Technology and Career
& Technical Education.
"Lori Gracey is a very
talented individual and
dedicated to this profes-
sion and to the children
in Bastrop," said Betty
Richardson, assistant
superintendent for cur-
riculum.
Gracey was pre-
sented with the cov-
eted "pink jacket
award" - symbol-
izing her contribu-
tions in the field
of educational
technology integra-
tion at the Texas
Computer Education
Association's
TCHA) 29th Annual
Convention &
Exposition, held Feb.
2-6 at the Austin
Convention Center.
Gracey is a former
TCEA president, vice
president and area
director, serving on its
board of directors for
13 years. She also has
conducted numerous
training sessions for
educational organiza-
tions along with serv-
ing as a consultant and
professional devel-
opment provider for
other school districts
around the nation.
At Bastrop ISD, Gracey
has implemented a 1:1
technology program for
the past five years, provid-
ing handheld computers to
all fourth grade students.
She recently led the dis-
trict in a laptop initiative
that has given laptop com-
puters to each fifth, sixth,
seventh and eighth grade
student. She has been with
the district since 1992, and
works with CTE teachers
and librarians as well.
