tiverside Grove spruces up with tree project
BY TERRY HAGERTY
Assistant Editor
Residents of
Riverside Grove are on
their way to a greener
entrance thanks to the
efforts of a beautification
project by the homeown-
ers' association.
On Friday, Mayor
Terry Orr and city coun-
cil member Kay
McAnally joined mem-
bers of Riverside Grove's
Beautification Tree
Project group to help
plant the first phase of
what is hoped to eventu-
ally be 84 trees along
several streets in the
subdivision.
The five trees readied
for planting on Friday
were on the subdivision's
entrance street, Schaefer
Boulevard.
The trees will be
Texas natives including
oak, crepe myrtles and
Leyland cypress, said
Todd Jordan, the land-
scaper for Bastrop's
Permaculture Design,
who is assisting in the
project.
Gathered with city
officials on Friday were
Cliff Wright, president of
the Riverside Grove
Homeowners'
Association, Ed Dickens,
vice-president and
Caitlyn Lopez, with the
Architectural Control
Committee of the home-
owners' association.
When the homeown-
ers association meets in
March, they will vote on
whether to approve fur-
ther funding of phases 2-
4. These phases will put
trees on the rest of
Schaefer Boulevard and
Jessica Place, Charles
Boulevard and Blair
Avenue.

Dief you know that if you spend $100 on taxable terns (clothes,
restaurant food, appliances, etc.) that the sales tax added to that purchase is
$8.25? Of that, $6.25 goes to the State Comptroller's office to be used in the
General Fund of the State. Fifty cents of the $8.25 goes to Bastrop County to
support funding roads, sheriffs office, etc. and one dollar and fifty cents goes to
the City of Bastrop to support their police, fire department, street ma itenance,
economic development and water/waste water needs.
