Lone Star Angels
seek your support
IT IS ONCE AGAIN that time of year when
Lone Star Angel Project board members
come together and embark on the Back to
School Clothing Campaign. For the last sev-
eral years, this organization has provided new
school clothes to hundreds of students who re-
side n Hemphill County. It is the mission of
Lone Star Angel Project that all students be-
gin the school year on an equal playing field
and that those students in need can feel the
excitement of receiving a new pair of shoes
and new clothes. We also provide much need-
ed school supplies to students whose families
may be havi ng a difficult time.
Last year, we purchased pants, shirts
and one pair of new shoes for 72 students in
Hemphill County. We also gave out approxi-
mately 100 school supply vouchers. This could
absolutely not be possible without the gener-
ous donations we receive throughout the year
from people in this community.
Please join us in continuing to make a dif-
ference, as it is now that we need your support
the most. Tax deductible donations can be
mailed to Lone Star Angel Project, P.O. Box
303, Canadian, TX 79014. We take seriously
the responsibi ity of being good stewards of
the funds Lone Star Angel Project receives
and feel that the children of our county have
been blessed beyond measure by such dona-
tions.

HOW HOT IS IT? It's
hot as the hinges of
hell; hot as a two-dol-
lar pistol; hot as a sto-
len tamale. It's hot-
ter than whoopee in
woolens, hotter than
a preacher's knee,
hotter than a fur
coat in Marfa. It's
so hot the hens are
laying hard-boiled
eggs, hot as a sum-
mer revival, hot-
ter than honeymoon hotel,
hotter than a burning stump, hot as a pot of neck bones.
How hot was it at The Record, office Wednesday? Hot enough
when the office A/C succumbed to several days of triple-digit
heat to send a bunch of hardened journalists Googling for fro-
zen daiquii; recipes and scurrying for home as soon as they
could get this week's edition put to bed.
