PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS-- Students enrolling at McMurry for the first time
are eligible to apply for a Presidential Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship
program recognize these students who have distinquished themselves academically in
high school.
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS - A limited number of restricted endowed scholarships
are available. Applications should be made to the financial aid office by May 1
for the Fall Semester and October 1 for the Spring Semester.
ACTIVITY SCHOLARSHIPS - Acitvity Scholarships are awarded in performing and
special activities such as Art, Band, Chanters, and Speech and Theatre. An audition
to interview is required by the director of the program for which the scholarship
is sought. Students granted these scholarships must be a full-time student and
must maintain a cumulative qrade point average of at least 2.0.
MINISTERIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - A pre-theological student or a life ser-
vice volunteer may apply for a scholarship of $900.00 per academic year.
The dependent wife or child of an ordained or diaconal United Methodist
Minister is elgible for a scholarship of $400.00 per academic year.
These scholarships are subject to the following requirements:
1. student must carry a minimum academic load of 12 hours per semes-
ter.
2. must maintain a "C" (2.00) overall grade average.
3. must have application approved each academic year. Applications
should be submitted to the Financial Aid Officer.
Eligibility for pre-theological students is established by having the
recommendations of their local pastor and District Superintendent or equiv-
alent church officials. Letters of recommendation must accompany the
application form. Deadline for receipt of application for these scholar-
ships is August 15 for the following academic year.
GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES
The comprehensive guidance and counseling services of McMurry College are
centered in the Student Services Office (O.M. #102) with professionally trained
counselors. The Campus Minister, faculty members, and residence hall supervisors
also assist students through counseling.
PERSONAL COUNSELING - For those who have emotional and/or adjustment problems,
religious questions, pre-marital, and/or family concerns, the Dean and Associate
Dean of Students as well as the Campus Minister are always available to assist
as needed. If anything worries you, please do not keep it to yourself. Perhaps
we can help you if we know what your problem is.
TESTING - The Director of Testing administers and interpets standardized
academic psychological, and vocational tests for the benefit ot the College and
its students.
McMurry is a testing center for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
Applications for most national testing programs for graduate schools are also
available -- GRE, NTE, Law, Business, etc.
VOCATIONAL COUNSELING - Many students begin college with no idea or at best a
vague idea of which career they wish to pursue. Thts is a phase of
counseling in which a professional counselor can assist the student in exploring
his/her aptitudes& interests, as well as the world of occupations. An occupational
information file is available for students interested in materials describing job
opportunities and requirements in hundreds of occupations (Placement Office, Campus
Center). To make a valid decision regarding one's vocational choice and
related major, all aspects of the individual and the occupation must be considered.
