Grandpa John Drake of San An-

will return to his home at Nicholas-
ville, Kentucky, and take charge of
the Public School there the coming
year.
Mr. George Hitz of Indianapolis,
Indiana, was in the city yetterday
and went out to Black City by pri-
vate auto where he owna a good
farm. He will be hert for two
weekt looking after the term.

Prof, and Mrs E. M. Haile have
gone to Chicago University for the
summer where Mr. Haile will pursue
a course in the school of methods
and Mrs. Haile will take advanced
work in Voice and German. They
visited home folks in Kansas en

H. C. Cox of the Hereford Lum-
ber Company, left for Lubbock Tues-
day to meet his father and brother
who are visiting relatives at that
place.
Mr. Clyde D. Wright and bride
left on the morning train Wednes-
day for Austin to be gone several
days. Mr. Wright goes on legal
business.

Judge Jno. E. Ferguson came in
from Kansas City on Thursday
morning looking well and in the best
of spiriti. Mrs. Ferguson and
Oliver stopped off in Amarillo for
a few days' visit.
Elmer Dameron went to Amarillo
Monday to meet Mrs. Laban Dame-
ron who is on her way home to Den-
ver, Colo., after a visit in Oklahoma
City. Mrs. Dameron will spend
several days with relatives in our
city.
Mrs. D. D. Brown of Fredrick,
Okla., and Mrs. J L. Crawford of
Vernon, who were called here by
the illness of their sister, Mrs. Joe
Collins, returned to their respective
homes Sunday. Mrs. Collins being
improved.
On last Sunday, Children's Day
Services were observed at the Meth-
odist Church at the 11 o'clock hour
and at the Presbyterian Church at
the evening hour. Both services
were largely attended, and the little
folks did exceedingly well.
W. K. Breediog and family of
Lake wood, N M, who have been
visiting Mrs. Eltsha Carter near town
and Mrs J W. Carter at Dimmitt,
left Monday evening for Lexington,
Okla , where they will reside in the
future.
Mrs. R. M D<*asoo, President of
the Missionary Society of the Amar-
illo Presbytery, Came down Wednes-
day and met with the society at this
place. A very interesting meeting
was held at the home of Mrs. J. A,
Fox, and many good plans were for*
mulated for the good of the Here-
ford Society. Mrs Deason return-
ed to Amarillo oo the evening train.

Dr. Eugene Turrentine has return-
ed from Los Angelos where he has
taken a course in dentistry, graduat-
this year with honor. He came by
way of Dallas where he successfully
passed the Texas State Examination
and was issued a certificate to prac-
tice his profession.
Mrs. Alice Lea and little daughter
Wildy left Thursday afternoon for
Medford, Oregon, to spend an indef-
inite time with her mother, Mrs.
Captain Howard, who formerly re-
sided in Hereford. Enroute, Mrs.
Lea will visit Colorado Springs, Los
Angeles and San Francisco

Erastus Gamble, brother of Mrs.
J. H. Cardwell, spent Sunday in
Hereford. This is Mr. Gamble's
first visit to Hereford in more than
two years, and he expressed himself
as being surprised at the growth of
our city in that, and the beautiful
appearance made by the trees.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C- Shelton came
in Wednesday from Dallas to spend
a month visiting Mr. Shelton's par-
ents, Commissioner Frank Sheltcn
and family of the north part of the
county. This is Mr. and Mrs. Shel-
tons first visit to the plains in five
years.

The Brand office is under obligat-
ions to Mrs. W. D. Keliehor for a
nice basket of rich red ripe plums
which she presented this week. All
such things are thankfully received.

The Brand has a few more tele*
scopes which it will give out with
subscriptions, new or old, at $1.50
for both. The telescope sells for
$1 00 and a million have been sold
in the United States this year.
Mrs. M. J. Cope, who has been
visiting her daughters, Mrs. Rebecca
Pope of Lockney, and Mrs. S. B.
Feemster of Hereford, returned to
her home in Fort Worth on Wed-
nesday. Mrs. Pope who accompan-
ied her mother to Hereford for a few
days visit, returned to Lockney on
Tuesday.
Mrs. J. C. Murphy has for her
guest at the present time, Mrs. J.
Wilson Boyle of Itasca. Mrs. Boyle
has just returned from a foreign trip
of two years, where she visited a
number of the countries of Europe,
including England, France, Italy,
and others. Mrs. Murphy and Mrs.
Boyle are old time friends.
What might have been a very
serious accident occurred last week
when Mrs. J. C North was cleaning
a pair of gloves Having drawn the
gloves on her hands, and when they
were thoroughly saturated with gaso-
lene, a match was lighted nearby
and immediately her h?nds were a-
blaze. The injuries were most pain-
ful for a time but it is thought oo
serious results will follow.
Judge S. G Carter, wife and dau-
ghter, Miss EfFi- Northcut. and An-
nie Bates, C. C Chenowith, wife and
mother, and J E. Spann all of
Amarillo were among the camping
party from H-reford on the Tierra
Blanca for several days last week.
All left by auto Saturday, except
Mr. and Mrs Chenowith and Mr.
Spann who remained in our ci.y for
a short visit until the Sunday even-
ing train
