Mrs. Judge Callahan Dead.
The sad news has reached the
Brand Office, that Editor Charles S.
Calahan of the Dimmitt Plainsman
was suddenly bereft of his mother
when on Friday the 17th, death claim
ed her for bis own in a Sanitarium
at Fort Worth where she had gone
for treatment.
When Mr. Callahan received the
message telling him of his mother's
death, he and his wife with several
friends were near Hereford on the
Tierra Blanca enjoying an outing
for a few days. They were at once
conveyed to Dimmitt in Judge C. F.
Kerr's auto, and from there to Tuha,
the home of Mr. Calahan's parents.
The funeral sarvices took place on
last Sunday at Tulia, and interment
in the cemetery nearby.
The Brand desires to extend sym-
pathy, and to condole with Editor
Calahan in this sad and dark hour.
The Male Quartette Entertained.

On Tuesday evening, the home of
! Mr. and Mrs. J W. Burks was es-
! pecially attractive in its decoration
of marguerites and other flowers It
was here that the "Male Quartette"
of our city and a few friends had
! been invited to spend a social hour.
! The many little pleasantries of the
j evening consisted of "42," a penny
contest and a rare treat of music.
Mr. W. F. West rendered two solos
that were highly appreciated by all
that heard therr. Refreshments cf
ices and cake were served, and at a
late hour all bade Mr. and Mrs
Burks adieu, feeling that "it was
good to be there." Those present
were Mr. and Mrs W. F. West, Mr.
and Mrs. H. S. Rowland, Mrs. Es-
telle Tucker, Misses Mercer and
Stell and Messrs Sturdy, Orr and
Burkhalter.
