Tub Brand trusts that the country
folks received the free matinee tick-
ets in the same spirit in which they
were sent. True, the price or cost
of a ticket, if you bought it, would
be little, but it is not the cost of a
fill or compliment that makes its
value, but the spirit and purpose of
the gift. The gift of a single blush-
ing rose bud, when accompanied by
that graciousness that becomes a true
man, brings far more pleasure than
a purse of coin. Despise not little
things—dimes make dollars.
When the Brand refers to "coun-
try folks," it is a designation that
carries a distinction of independence.
Of the two classes, town folks and
country folks, the latter enjoy a
grealer opportunity for independence
than the city-fied ever dared to
dream. The Brand uses the term
"country folks" in the proper way,
and not in any sense as a reflection
or in derision. It is to be hoped
that more town people will seek the
independence of the country. It
should be the ambition of every man
and woman to get acquainted with
the soil by actual industrial contact
and not be compelled to "bite the
dirt" in an effort to live in the city.
To be called "country folks" should
carry a distinction of honor. No
such cao be found in the empty
honors of a store job or on an office
stool. The city-fied folks are the
despised of earth. They don't know
it, but their country cousins, yes, the
very "country folks ' at whom they
fling their sneers, furnish them with
their daily bread. The farmers feed
the world, and to be called ■'country
folks" simply means the people from
whom city folks get all they have to
eat and wear.

Ralph Harnett Appointed Post-
master.
A wire from Washington Tuesday
brought the information that R. H.
Barnett had been appointed by Presi-
dent Wilson as postmaster at Here-
ford, and his name with some twenty
five others in Texas, had been sent
to the Senate. It was on May 30,
that Postmaster General Burleson
asked Congressman Stephens for his
recommendation to the Hereford of-
fice, and he immediately sent in the
name of bis friend, Ralph Barnett.
Mr. Stephens' many friends in Here-
ford feel that in naming Mr. Barnett
for this responsible position that he
has made no mistake and that the
entire citizenship will endorse the
action of the high authorities in their
selection. It is not known just when
the Senate will pass on the appoint-
ment, but it will not be many days.

la Xemoriam.
Whereas it has pleased our Heav-
enly Father in His almighty wisdom
to send His Death Angel and take
from us our beloved sister, °Mrs. C.
S. Richards,
Be it resolved that we, the Ladies
Aid and Missionary Society of the
Hereford Baptist church, do extend
to the family and bereaved ones our
deepest sympathy.
Resolved further that in the death
of our sister, we, as an Aid Society
and a church have lost a most worthy
consecrated member, her family a
devoted wife and mother, and the
community a useful and exemplary
Christian.
Hers was a beautiful, unselfish
life, its blessed influence shall inspire
our hearts and lives throughout the
days to come. Many of us, with
her pastor, had the blessed privilege
of being present when she reaiized
that death was near. Her tender
caresses and last words of admoni-
tion to her children and loved ones,
touched our hearts and strengthened
our faith. May God comfort the
husband, the children, the dear old
mother, and the relatives.
A copy of this Resolution shall be
spread upon the minutes of our
Society, a copy sent to the family
and a copy furnished the Hereford
Brand for publication.
