The commencement exercises at
Dtmmitt on Friday and Saturday
nights closed one more page of
school work for the members of its
class. The intelligence portrayed
ia th? orations, and the delivery of
sasse, plaialy evidenced the careful,
watchful ability of their instructor,
and the capability of those students
to graep the ideas, to weigh the
points aad originate such interesting
orations. This class is leaving the
Diaunitt High School under a ban-
ner inscribed "Success" attained by
the careful painstaking guidance of
Miss Griffith, their principal. All
honors are due her in her untiring
effort to make them what they are
when the time comes for them to de-
part from her class room. Some-
time in the future when these boys
and girls have chosen their vocation
in life, some perhaps whose names
will adorn our congress walls, in
looking back o'er life's pathway,
will proudly say. "I received my
high school diploma as one of Miss
Griffith's graduates."
The exercises mentioned above
brings vividly to our minds the ex-
cuse we so often hear people
make for their ignorance that they
never "had a chance." Now the
majority of men who have become
noted made the chance for them-
selves. "Where there's a will
there's a way," you know, and the
boy or girl who is determined to be
something and does not lose heart
in the struggle, generally accom-
plishes the end sought. One may
have a great many wise and am-
bitious thoughts but if not followed
up with perseverance and industry
he will never amount to much. A
thing must be wholly done and well
done, if one would have fame and
prosperity. Education is the great

possible it is for pupils to receive
full benefit by going to school two
or three times in a week and remain ,

is deplorable when necessity com- ,
pels parents to keep their children
from school, but when a pupil is per-

pose of attending some place of
amusement, or merely because they
feign sickness until after school is
called and then immediately recover j
is much worse- Time thus lost cau '
