Week's Theater Program
Offers Variety Of Films
"The Bravados" which contin
ues its post run at Theater 2 to
night is a well-produced and
somewhat unusual western.
A rancher (Gregory Peck) hunts
down four outlaws who he be
lieves assaulted and murdered
his wife.
Much of the film is devoted to a
.engthy but general
chase in which Peck finds one
man after the other and deals out
his brutal revenge.
The ending is a genuine sur
prise and illuminates a moral
issue which the picture faces
almost squarely a reasonably
rare thing for Hollywood.
Peck's usual stiffness contri
butes in this case to the quality of
blind obsession in the hunter. The
supporting cast including Joan
Collins Henry Silva and Stephan
Boyd is good.
Silva in particular is outstand
ing as one of the four outlaws an
Indian. The actor will be remem
bered for his portrayal of the
sadistic dopepusher called "Moth
er" in "A Hat Full of Rain."
The Trials Of Marjorie
Herman ("Caine Mutiney")
Wouk's long novel about a girl's
search for middle class bliss has
been translated to the screen.
"Marjorie Morningstar" also
long as a movie is far from pro
found but manages to be reason
ably entertaining.
Natalie Wood is lovely and fairly
convincing as a girl from a solid
Jewish family who seeks Life
among a variety of men most of
them connected with the theater.
The best thing about the
picture is Gene Kelly's per-

Ed Wynn is amusing as Mar-

opportunity to do some clowning
during a camp festival. Claire Tre

Carolyn Jones who has made a
specialty of playing girls with
easy standards toward the op

heroine's camp friend. She played
a similai^j|'ole in Presley's pic

Civil War Epic
Raintree County" is a three-
hour Civil War drama complete
with the battle of Chickamauga
Sherman's march and Elizabeth
Taylor going mad.
The picture based on Ross
Lockridge Jr.'s novel cost ?6-
000000 and used 119 players with
speaking parts a record at MGM

Johnny Green's musical score
runs two hours and 18 minutes
also a studio record.
Elizabeth Taylor received an
