The presentation was made by
Col. Charles L. Crain com

Specialist Hamlett's most
hazardous brush with the Viet

five miles from Da Nang Air
Base when his UH-1B "Huey"
helicopter lost oil pressure and
had to land in a rice paddy.
"We were about five miles
from the airstrip when the pilot
noticed the oil pressure drop
ping" Hamlett said.

While the battle was going on
the crew chief sprinted back to
the Huey and radioed for help.
"I could see an Air Force
helicopter in the distance but
the crew didn't see us" Ham
lett said. Then the Viet Cong
opened up with mortars trying
to hit the crippled Huey.
Hamlett and another crew
man laid down a heavy coun-
terfire. The crew chief was cut
down by Communist fire trying
to reach Hamlett's position.
