learned that a number of
airlines which had not insisted
on use of this form in the past
plan to begin asking for it in
near future.
Besides having DD form 1580
in their possession service men
and women who wish to travel
at reduced commercial rates
must meet all of the following
requirements
—Be on active duty or a cadet
at one of the service academies.
—Be in uniform and traveling
at own expense while on official
leave pass or within seven days
after discharge.
Failure to present DD Form
1580 can result in airline refusal
to sell the service member a
discount ticket. Possession of
this form is the best precaution
against this eventuality.
