Dugas added that the society, which began on such a small
scale 'was off to a running start and I know it will last.' He
spoke of the current projects, emphasizing the importance of the
work done by Coila Hales and Nadine Slaughter in their efforts
to establish Heritage House. Praise was also offered to the
editor of Las Sabinas, Nina Harden and Mrs. Slaughter, Edna Stan-
brough and others for their part in the successful publication
of the official quarterly for the past three years.
A native of Beaumont, Dugas grew up in the Sabine area.
He served three years in the Texas Legislature, graduated from
the University of Texas Law School and set up a private practice
of law. He has been a Justice of the Peace, Assistant and County
and District Attorney and served on a special advisory committee
in Washington, D. C.
He maintains a law office on Sixteenth Street and is active
in the Bar Association as well as community affairs.
