Memory is a wonderful possession of the human family, and
because we have memory it must be for a service to us in many ways.
Without this quality there would be no schools of learning, no
building blocks in the structure of our spiritual or economic life,
and no way to recall who were brothers, sisters, mothers or fathers.
Recollections of childhood days are the fondest memories
to all. That is true in spite of the fact that in the youth of many
persons who live today, there were no modern conveniences, no modern
transportation and no fast ways of communication such as radio and
television. Youngsters were just as happy with a stick horse and
a homemade wagon as the children of today with their motor bike
and bicycle.
Going to market with a fine pair of mules hitched to a Stude-
baker or Weber Wagon loaded with cotton bales and cotton seed, was
a greater thrill to a country boy than present day rides in the
finest cars. There was the inviting aroma of the woodlands, the
stillness of the trees, the occasional voice of a wild creature,
and the clear streams with the rickety bridges that spanned them.
Our country hasn't been out of the horse and buggy age very
long. Many persons can recall the time when their fastest trans-
portation consisted of a good saddle horse, and the most comfortable
ride was in a rubber-tired buggy.10.
