I can remember a spotted horse the old doctor rode many
years. (From "Some Early East Texas Families".)
Vaughn Seastrunk, son of Dr. Oliver Seastrunk of Orange said
his grandfather Dr. J. C. Seastrunk, M. D. had three sons, Dr.
D. R. Seastrunk, a dentist; and Dr. Horris Seastrunk and Dr.
Oliver Seastrunk, both medical doctors. Dr. Oliver Seastrunk's
wife was the daughter of Oliver Bland.
Neither Vaughn nor his brother Day were inclined to follow
in the footsteps of their forefathers.
Dr. J. C. Seastrunk was the county physician in 1903 when
yellow fever was raging through the country. Two items found
in the Oct. 24, 1903 Orange Leader take note of this:
QUARANTINE PROCLAMATION: Orange County Physician J. C.
Seastrunk declared a strict quarantine against the cities of
Laredo and San Antonio and all other points infected by yellow
fever and against all persons and things that have been there
within the last 48 hours. 22nd Oct. 1903.
Dr. Frank Fanning is making preparations to leave here for
New Braunfels,30 miles from San Antonio. He will remain there,
where he can talk to his wife and daughter by phone. They were
caught in San Antonio when the yellow fever quarantine was put
into effect. Should the situation demand it, he will go over
to San Antonio. It was hoped no ill will befall his dear ones.25.
