School class met August 18 In
the home of Mrs. Charles Tay-
lor for their regular monthly
business and social meeting.
The meeting was opened with
prayer by Mrs. M. C. Henry. De-
votional was given by Mrs. Joe
Lamb. Reports from the first, se-
cond and third vice presidents,
and the treasurer's report were
given.
The following officers were
elected for the coming year: Mrs.
Jim Reed, teacher;. Mrs. R. E.
Karr, president; Mrs. Charlie
Rowse, first vice president; Mrs.
R. C Wood, second vice presi-
dent; Mrs. Joe Lamb, third vice-
president; Mrs. R. J. Coffey, se-
cretary and reporter, and Mrs.
John Crump, treasurer.
After the business meeting
the class was entertained with
songs by Ann Fite in Portuguese
language. Her family are mis-
sionaries from Brazil. Ice cream
and cake were served to the fol-
lowing: Mesdames R. E. Karr,
R. C.'Wood, R. J. Coffey, E. O.
Burrous, Joe Lamb, M. C. Henry,
F. M. Dunn, Ira Benton, • B. C.
Askew and Miss Ann Fite.

Dr. Henry A. Holle, State
Health officer, in outlining the
duties of the Texas State Depart-
ment of Health, said in a state-
ment this week that public
health programs are designed to
benefit all the people.
'In an effort to prevent di-

payments in Texas averaged $34.23. Thirty-four other states paid
more. The national average payment was $43.60.
By March, 1954, the national average payment had increased
$7.72—to $51.32, while Texas payments had increased only about
