PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Gary Garrett
I hope everyone is looking forward to a fun
and productive summer. Even though it is over half
a year away, we are already planning the next annual
meeting. President-elect Fran Gelwick is busy
setting up another good meeting for us. Continuing
Education seminars at our annual meeting can be
very rewarding for the membership, but we need
your input and ideas in order to provide the best
product each year.
Bob Edwards will chair the newly created
committee to develop the Clark Hubbs Student
Research Award. Their mission is to "explore and
initiate means to create an independent financial base
to support the Hubbs award". We are discussing
some innovative ideas to generate money for the
award and Bob has put together a committee that
will work hard to complete their task.
Brian Van Zee and David DeLeon worked
tirelessly on the Publicity and Exhibits Committee
and have decided to take a well-deserved break! We
need someone to fill their shoes and keep this
critically important function running smoothly.
Thanks guys!
Finally, Ray Mathews continues to compile a huge
data set as the Chapter Historian. The photocollection is growing, but he wants more! The
photographic history of our earlier days not only
provides great viewing entertainment, it is a great
way to document our past. Check your files and see
if you have some interesting old photos. Ray would
love to include them in the archives.
PRESIDENT ELECT
Fran Gelwick
TCAFS President-elect, Fran Gelwick
reports that plans for the annual TCAFS meeting in
February 2004 are proceeding and wanted to let the
membership know some of the details so they can
plan to attend the meeting. We will be joined by the
Texas River and Reservoir Management Society
(TRRMS) and are planning joint workshops and a
River and Reservoir Theme. The meeting is being
planned for College Station at the Hilton. The
meeting will take place Sunday-Tuesday, February
8-10. Rooms will be at state rate with the
Continuing Education Workshops and Student
Mixer on Sunday, and Banquet on Monday night.
