prestige of the governorship it-

easily succeed in summoning
the highest talent to adminis-

than the elective power can un-

distrust of the appointive pow-

Railroad Commissioners are
ordinarily elected instead of ap-

On the first page of this pa
per is printed an item from]
Austin announcing the appoint-
ment of W. A. Nabors of this
city jus railroad commissioner.;
The news came as a surprise to;
our citizens, and was undoubc-1
edly so to Mr. Nabora, who has I
never shown any inclinations to'
fill a public office. In making
this appointment Governor i
Neif made a good selection. No
man in tho state is better qual-
ified to make a railroad com-
missioner than Mr. Nabors.
His fifteen year.* experience in
truck shi -ping eminently fits
him for vh'6 place. He knows
what the shipper needs and al-
so whal the railroads are en-
titled to. Again we say no
safer, better qualified man i
could have been appointed.
Winnsboro will miss Mr. Na-
Ibors, but the whole state wiH
profit by our loss.
We have too many implements on hand.
In order to move them we are making
some very low prices, and we will make
it to your interest to price with us. We
