There was great enthusiasm at Buffalo.
A hundred guns were fired at the arsenal
and fifty at the court bout. There was a
street parade.
At Detroit - the enthusiasm was un-
bounded. .
St. Louw June 29 The Convention was
called to order at 10 :20.
The chair announced the reception of
several telegrams which were r?ad. One
from Sedalia Mo. snying: "We fired one
hundred guns for Tilden and hope for
Hendricks for Vice President." Another
from the mayor of Cincinnati and others
approving the ticket. Ono from Jackson
Miss. pledging the State for the ticket.
One from Mount Vernon 111. saying:
"The nomination of Tilden is received
with great enthusiasm." Many others of
similar character were read endorsing the
platform and candidates which elicited
' great interest.
-12 M.The chairman called for nnmina-
' tions of candidates and when Indiana was
reached Ilendiicks was nominated.
12:40 Y. m. Judge Hanna of Indiana
who is now speaking returned thanks for
' the great compliment and enthusiasm
evinced for Indiana's favorite son.
1 :25 p. M. Webber ot Michigan ottered
a resolution recommending tha' future na-
tional democratic conventions abolish the
two-thirds rnle in balloting for candidates
which passed.
Later 2 p. m. Ilendiicks was nomi-
Dated on the first ballot unauimously.
' John Kelley while speaking of the nom-
' ination . was listened to intently by the
. whole convention. lie pledges himself to
work hard and enthusiastically for Tilden
and Hendricks.
St. Louis June 29. After the procla-
mation from the chairof Hendricks's nomi-
nation Kelly of New York rose to ad-
dress the chair. Applause and loud calls
'for Kelly Kelly platform. He pro-
ceeded to the platform amid cheers. Kel-
ly said: There was no man here who bad
worked more strenuously thau himself
' against the nomination of Tilden because
it was bis euruest belief that the election
could not be carried with him as a candi-
date. The convention has decided other-
wise and he bowed to its decision and
. none would labor harder than he for bis
election. He expressed great admiration
for Ubndricks and confidence in his
pure character counseled the burial of
all personal opinions ana a conccutratrd
effort for common victory. He proceeded
with some comments on the ncci'vsiry for a
change . in the uaiional administration
through Democratic mccess and was fre-
quently greeted with tiiiplnuHc.
