Again and again the Senator from

felt that It waa mere profitable to blm

somewhat modified In 1832 but was still
unsatisfactory to the South because It

the equal to any which had been given.
Ily Thursday morning the work of the
conference had progressed to that
point where the election of delegates
to the General Conference was declared
the next order of the day. This never
falls to throw things Into lively mo-
tion. Six men were elected on one bal-
lot In the following order: Dr. J. M.
Johnson Rev. M. P. Harvey Dr. J. B.
Butler. Rev. J. S. McAllester Dr. J. H.
Connor Rev.. E. M. Bracy and Mr. W.
S. Wright and Mr. E. U Jackson had
been- chosen lay delegates. Alternates
are Revs. A. S. Slaughter D. D. T. IP.
Furgerson g. McEIroy L. C. Wade and
M. C. Lewis. Mr. J. Walters Is lay al-
ternate the other I did not get the
name. This conference In keeping
with Its predecessors has chosen splen-
did delegation. The conference en-
gaged In what might be termed In
Methodist phraseology an old time love
feast In which many ministers and
laymen took part and praised the Bish
op for the wonderful work he had done
since coming to the district and de-
manding that the delegates go up to
IxiuisTille and demand his return to
Texas. The Bishop made a very plain
statement regarding the matter saying.
that If the men were sincere he would
be glad to serve the state another
quadrennlum but If they did not want
his services he was ready to go to any
part of the church he might be assign-
ed even to Africa. He waa Informed
that Texas had never gone back on a
Bishop the men had alwaya stood by
him until he asked to be relieved. The
Bishop assured It would be hla policy
to refer all delegationa who might aeek
hla services for the next four yeara to
the Texas delegates.
The carrying out of auch a policy
will prevent the Bishop and his dele-
gation from ever being at cross pur-
poses. The feature of the present
round of the conference work haa been
the splendid missionary meetings Mrs.
U M. Hughes snrt Mrs. H. A. Carr have
been having with the ladies of the lo-
cal churches. Mrs. Hughes who la now
