warmly cherished In tlio hearts of the
good people of the Htuto. I would ask
you to publish for the Information of
tho people sections 27 and 111 as follows
vi.:
Hko. -7. That during the entire day
of any election in this State formunlcl-
pal county district or Slate olllcers It
shall bo unlawful for any bar room

nothing herein contained shall prevent
stores from being opened for the sale
of other goods wines ami merchan-
dise. '
Hue. 31. That any person who shall
vote or attempt to vote more than
once at the same election shall be
deemed guilty of a felony and on con-
viction shall be contined in the peni-
tentiary not less than two nor more
than live years. Any person whoshall
disturb any election by inciting or en-
couraging a tumult or a mob or shall
cause any disturbance in the vicinity
or nny poll or voting place; or any per-
son who shall wilfully aid or abet or
advise any one not legally quiililled in
voting or attempting to vole tit any
election ; or any person or persons who
shall by force or intimidation obstruct
or attempt to obstruct or inlhieuce any
voter in Ills free exercise of the elective
franchise; or any person who may
carry any gun pistol bowle knife or
other dangerous weapon concealed or
unconcealed on any day of election
during the hours the polls are oiieii
within the distance of one-hall' mile of
any poll or place of voting shall lie
deemed guilty of tin olleuse and on
conviction thereof shall for every
such riolatioii bo lined not le.-s than
one hundred nor more than live hun-
dred dollars and may In addition
thereto be imprisoned in the county
jail not exceeding one mouth.
Here is the true moral standard in
the conduct of elections and to-day the
good people not only of Dallas but of
every county in the State can have
peace quiet and good order and a
free and a fair expression of the
opinions of voters on all matters refer-
red to them. If there are men who
seek to evade this law and who haul
to the polls their prompted voters and
jugs of rot-gut whiskey you yes you
felow citizens who have a regard for
moral honesty and purity in govern-
mental alfulrs can visit condign pun-
ishment upon such foul depravity.
It would no doubt be gratifying to
many to read the entire law from
your paper. Indeed I think the en-
tire press of the State should givo it
pulicity. Let not a single voter cry
''foulness" when we have the remedy
In our own hands to wipe out or purify
any corruption in elections. All we
want is men witli sound good judg-
ment and strong nerves in the con-
duct of the franchise. And not only
those but every voter should stand
high on the watelitower of moral hon-
esty und scrutinize closely the wanton
corruption and foul depravity of un-
scrupulous demagogues. a votku.
The Democratio party is dead say
the Radicals. Well let them think so.
We think that as the American people
North South East ami West awake
from thegreat national hallucination
lu plain English -the great national
derangement the everlasting princi
ples of human liberty. will arise re-
invigorated as in 18D0 in the days of
Jefferson and the spirit of- Democracy
will once' more reign as the dews of
Heaven only to protect invlgorute
and exalt the people. An honest
Republican government and a great
this Is Democracy. A strong central-
ized government rotten to tho core
and a weak knee-bending people
this is Radicalism.
Tub uapers published in Texas may
be classified according to the very best
data to bo had. as follows: Demo-
cratic 108; Radical 12; Neutral 0:
Kciigious 4: Agricultural .More
than one-half of the Radical papers
published in Texas clirhtccn mouths
ago have sold out been suspended or
have changed politics anil it is doulit-
ful whether the present list will hold
out even till the election.
