Our federal rclatloim Jut now aro of
tho greatest Import to Texas. Wit li a

extent ami growing to a population of
millions I know none will deem It ir-
reverent for me to invoke (lod's liles-

Texan with a patriotism that will never

plause. Our patriot fathers who
wrested thin territory from despotism
audguve their their blood uud their
lives to seal It to us those noble old
Tcxuu fathers tho noblest men that
ever carved out the destinies of any
people -bequeathed It in its entirety
and lot us preserve It whole and for-
ever. May God strlKo dumb tho
tongue and paralyze tho arm of him
who would advise its disruption or
move for It consummation. Ap-
plause. No man can tell what a day
may bring forth but it is always to be
expected thut Texas will stand high
among her sister states aflordlng as
she does bounteous homes and count-
less comforts for from one to two mil-
lions of people. Her name will ever
be a power la the laud and her people
grade high in the national scale of pa-
triotism mid Intelligence. Then let
her remain entire one and insenara-
tile the Texas of to-day be tho Texas
of all future time. ' .
1NTEKKNI' AX MONEY.
." Money la commanding here In Dal-
las from three to five per cent per

rate on tho very best collaterals. We
tlon't suppose that a persou could bor
row inoro than two hundred dollars
on a warehouse receipt for ten bale of
0 ilton and not at a less rate than three
per cent a month. This condition of
oflulrs Is of course calculated to re

no sympathy with any ninth expres

niy other commodity that the man
who has It has the right to get all lie
can for It Just as the farmer does for
his cotton the merchant for his dry
goods etc. The reasou why money
lu commanding such a high rate is
simply beoauso It 1s scarce. If there
were twice as much of It here the rate
of interest would not be more than
half It now is. What Is needed here is
more bauklng capital. Dullus ought
to hove twice as much as she has.
Aud in our Judgment the county has
means euougli to supply this demand
la a great part If the right tiieii will
take hold energetically of the work.
The quaint old Scotch phrase "many

HANCOCK'S) Hl'V.tA H.
At the close of the tlilrty-scveiilh

a motion wan adopted requesting holh
Hancock and Khopard toaddresH the

of lilsstowariMilp the other to show
Iih claims to the position to which he
was aspiring. The Invitation was ac-
cepted by the two gcutlfiiicii and

have proved satisfactory to thu dele-

the consequences of his Vole on Unit
occasion.. Ho defended It as the best
vote lie ever gave and said that If he
had to Volo again 011 Ihc hiiiiio bill ho

ments in support of his position were
Ingenious and forcible but we doubt
very much If they convinced his hear-
ers of tho propriety of his course at
the Niiincllnic that I hey caused lliein
to condone the ollciisc. Me laid all
thu liluino for the indignation Unit hud
been aroused against tho salary grab-
bers oil the newspapers; said that
they had deceived tlio people in ref-
erence to the matter and that lie
didn't suppose 0110 editor in twenty

supposed It probable that his compet-

ured terms immediately upon its pas-
sage. The Inference would he that the
editors throughout tho whole country
are Ignorant and uninformed us tho
honorable gentlemen would have us
believe IheTexas editors are.
Aside from this position of (icncral
Hancock's Hpcech which wo think it
would have been In better taste for
him to have omitted we are bound to
admlru Its boldness its straight-forwardness
and lis manly honesty. The
action of the convention in giving him
tlie nomination by so overwhelming a
majority shows that these qualities
tire appreciated hy Tcxans uud that
the delegates In convention assembled
felt that tho same conscientiousness
and boldness that scorned to seek their
favor by receding from what he be-
lieved to he right would charac(eri.o
all his actions In congress and would
Hosuro for General Hancock a proud
and liilluentlal position lu tho na-
tional councils.
KANT FOKK II II I II (J 1).
We have several times already en-
deavored to impress upon the business
men of DiilhiH the importance of con-
structing a bridge across the East fork
so as to enable tho people of Hunt aud
adjoining counties to reach Ibis place
with their produce. The very great
importance of securing the erection of
this bridge ul an early day is our apol-
ogy for again bringing it to the atten-
tion of our readers.
Wo take this proposition to bo self-
evident that in consequence of the
shortuesH of the crops in the region on
which Dallas depends lor its trade the
amount of business done hero lust
season can not be done this season un
less extraordinary exertions aro made
to secure trade from other quarters;
What the eltect of u decrease In the bu-
siness of the city tho approaching
season as compared with the last sea-
sou's business would be it is not worth
while for us to attempt to show. The
cry would at once bo raised Dullus Is
going down; it would he taken up by
her many rivals in northern Texas
and would be repeated with so much
persistency that it would bo bound to
have a certain etlcct. Dallas is now
moving steadily for.vard on a sure and
safe basis and it behooves all who are
interested lu her welfare to see to It
that nothing may occur to returd this
onward movement.
Hi order as we said before that there
may not. be a fulllug oil. In tho busi-
ness of the season on which we are
Just entering It Is necessary that we
should be reaching out in every direc-
tion for trade. And It is iu this
point of view that the construc-
tion of the bridge over Kant fork be-
comes a matter of so - vital Im-
portance lo tho prosperity of our city.
As;it is now the distance to lie travel-
ed between Dallas and Kockwall is
about twenty-six miles and a portion
of this Is through the bottoms of East
fork wlilch in the winter aro almost
entirely impassable. If the bridge is
put at the point designated tho dis-
tance to he traveled will be reduced lo
twenty mile and the worst part of the
road will lie avoided altogether. We
published a few days ago an article
from the Kockwall Banner stating
that If there was a bridge over East
fork the trade and (ravel from that
