Kltlicr the Dallas and Wichita must
U coinplcled at once or our men
chunU should Join with those of the
outlaying western towns In establish-
ing a Unit or wagons to run regularly
and upon which the people can rely
lor the quick and certain transporta-
tion of freight. There Is no cxcuho
possible for tho delays which have oc-
curred In the resumption of work on
the Dallas it Wichita which If com-
pleted would relieve this pressing
business need more completely and
perfectly than anything else if the
old-womanish policy which has been
continued so long Is still to obtain
with regard to It we might as well
study the freighting problem from
some other Hlainl point.
This rk-u trade which is persistently
knocking at our doors ami being as
persistently turned away is vory valu-
able and it will not knock always.
It will liiul other outlets and Dallas
because a few iiicii cannot reconcile
their adverse Interest In a petty rail-
road scheme must be made to sillier
Incalculable mischief. Wo are of the
opinion that if our merchant would
get together and organize a wagon
train for liusiiuss to the west and
northwest send out their men to In-
vite the trade ami exemplify our busi-
ness advantages much of the evil In-
dieted hy the unreasonable detention
of the Dallas and Wichita may be
overcome. Tho people of tho region
named have ail traded here in times
past and desire to continue (lie rela.
tlon but are forced away because we
have not got tho facilities to got our
goods to them.
Wo are reduced to this simple pre-
dicament and it Is no use to try to es-
cape the unpleasant conclusion. Wo
must either complete the Dallas and
Wichita ut once failing In this estab-
lish the wagon line or give up the
trade upon which Dallas has thrived
in the past and upon which her fu-
ture imjimtance and commercial well-
being very largely depends. V trust
our incrchautM and property holders
will consider this matter and at the
same time assure them that our col-
