A man named William B. McLaughlin

coat hat and shoes and arming himself with

awakened by a slight noise he made and saw
bun standing by ber bedside with the ax rais-
ed just in the act of sti iking ber husband.
She screamed and seized the ax by the han-
dle and was dragged out of bed by the in-
tended assassin. In.tbe scullle the bed lamp
and a marble-topped table were broken the
noise awakening Mr. Poole who seized hit
pistol a small live-shooter but being afraid
to shoot for fear of wounding his wife he
closed with McLaughlin and oeat him over
the head with the pistol. Directly hit wife
handed him a six-shooter and started to shoot
the wn teb but his wife brggod him not to
and he marched him out into the street and
turned him loose. Mr. Poole was bruised
somewhat and slightly cut on the shoulder
and Mr. Poole received some scratches and
bruise on the face. But for the bravery of
Mrs. Poole her husband would certainly have
been murdered.
