Public Sneaking
Undor tho auspicos of the Bois d' Arc club
of tbis city at Craddock's opera house last
evening quite an interesting meet-
ing was held. Colonel W. L.
Crawford the president called the. meet-
ing to order in remarks in which he urged
fealty to the stato county and precinct tick
els put for ward by the party. He statod that
he thought the state Dominations irom me
governor down to the most inferior officer
were euiinontly wise and prop r. lie paid an
eloquent tribute to Hancock and English
the national nominees ot the party uo
arguod that Hancock ought to be aoceptable
to both sections of the country; that
he was a northern horo at
the battle of Gettysburg and
a southern civis hero after the termination of
the Ink rne.'ino struggle. While wo have a
handsomo Democratic majority he urged
that no efforts that will redound to the inter-
est of the party should be forsakon in tho
coming contest. Every nominee he stated
should receive the endorsement of tho Demo-
crats of Texas lie closed by paying a
tribu'o to nnd intradu 'ing Hon. O. W. Smith
chairman of tho Democratic state executive
committee to the audience.
Mr. Smith's spooch whs a brilliant and
oloquont effort. Ho endow-d Gov-
ernor Roberts' administration and counseled
the Dom cracy present to support him.
Ho defended his school polity his immigra-
tion ideas and other policies inaugurated
during his term of office. Ho then paid his
rosDoi'ti to the national standard-bearers and
oloied with a brilliant peroration in their
behalf.
Aftor the conclusion of his remarks
Colonel Wellborn after loud aud vocifer-
ous calls responded in a few torso noat and
appropriate remarks in which he endorsed
Governor Uoberts' "pay-as-you-go" policy.
He urged upon the Democrats present to
suppi rt the ticket put forth by the party
in sovereign and Bolemn conclaro. He
thought the administration of tho presont
chief executive a most excellout one and
worthy the supportof every Domocrat in the
state.
After the conclusion of Colonel Wellborn's
remarks Judge Hurt was demonstratively
called for to mako a speech but excused
himself nicely and in a happy mannor claim-
ing that he had received no notiilca'ion.
Colonel Crawford again arose and after
eiplniuing tho object of tho club and solicit-
ing tho encourRgomont of the Democrats in
attendance declared tho meeting adjourned
