Facsimile $5 Republic of Texas
banknotes, printed on parch-
ment so crinkly and genuine
looking that Sam Houston would
have accepted it at face value
without a second glance, made
their appearance throughout the
state this week as part of Sena-
tor Robert Baker's race for Lieu-
tenant Governor.
On the reverse side of the
bank-notes is printed, In appro-
priate formal language, the
bearer's certificate of member-
ship in the "Be for Baker Club"
declaring that this is *'the cur-
rency of good and progressive
government in the State of Tex-
as." "
An annuoncement from Bak-
er's .Dallas headquarters *>said
100,000 of the unique banknotes
will be distributed ' during the
next six weeks, being offered to
Baker suporters through county
campaign headquarters and
chairmen throughout Texas.
Baker confidently predicted
that he would be in the run-off
election with "the candidate
who has already committed him-
self to state-wide special interest
groups," and that he vould win
the run-off because he has made
no committments to any group
or organization and will be free
to serve the voters to the best of
his ability and his 10 years' ex-
perience in the Legislature.

If the lioes of all the electric coopera-
tives in tfie nation were put end
to end, they would stretch to
the moon six times, or a distance
of. nearly 11/2 .million miles.
These lines were strung through
swamps, over hills, across
plains, and through forests to
serve rural people who built
their own electric systems
because they couldn't get
electricity any other way. The
nation's rural electric systems
are dependable and
efficient. Their service is
lodern and up-to-date. They
are a shining example of
what free enterprise can
accomplish, building 51 :
